Here’s an unexpected development for one of electronic music’s true and enduring pioneers. Kraftwerk was on the road in the US only just last month, with their special 3D Concert show—which sees them working through their catalog stretching back to the early ‘70s. And they’ve just been announced as nominees for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame .
The 2017 nominees were revealed this week, with Kraftwerk placed alongside more expected rock bands like Pearl Jam, Yes, and the Cars—as well as several other acts that have been influential on dance music, including Chic and Depeche Mode. It’s not the first time the German electro veterans were nominated, having been shortlisted in 2015, 2013 and 2003.
The winners will be announced in December, with the induction ceremony taking place next April in New York and broadcast on HBO.
