Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci

Today I am beyond thrilled to welcome back the lovely Christina Matteucci of David Beahm Design . As you may know from her welcome post here , Christina is Merci New York’s newly minted Destinations Expert… and truly, we are ever-so-lucky to have her as one of our prized contributors!

Christina travels the globe as Executive Director for David Beahm Destinations , a by-invitation only resource of luxurious locales curated by the renowned design company. Each month, Christina will bring Merci New York’s readers insider access to beautiful locales that have been graced with the David Beahm Destinations seal of approval.

Today, Christina shares her and David’s travels to Tulum, and a glimpse of some beautiful fetes they’ve produced on the Ana y Jose Charming Hotel and Spa. Take it away, Christina…

Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci How shall I put this? Most everyone who knows me knows that I am more than just a little… “high-maintenance.” How could I, how would I, Christina Matteucci, lover of all things luxurious, handle a week in a grass-roofed Mexican palapa? Will the mosquitos devour me? Do they even have the Internet? Is the water safe to drink? Oh for love of all things good and righteous! What about air-conditioning!?!?!? To make matters worse, American news outlets covered enough drug cartel activity to make me think I might be headed into a war zone. I pestered David with so many safety questions before our departure; I was convinced he was going to leave me behind.
Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci But I was joyously surprised upon setting foot in the charming town of Tulum on the Mayan Riviera—and entering the enchanting, family-owned property of Ana y Jose—to realize all of my fears were for naught. Sure, there were a few mosquitos, but internet, air-conditioning, a spa, pool and hot tubs made me feel right at home. Maybe, even better than home! And just like our good old US of A, I’m quite sure that there are, indeed, places in Mexico where one should avoid travel, but that, my dear readers, does not apply to Tulum.

Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci The Mayan Riviera is a rustic, tropical escape on the Eastern shore of Mexico. Carved out millions of years ago by a massive asteroid, the area shows no sign of its violent past. Just the opposite – it is an oasis of beautiful sandy beaches, green jungles and the friendliest people I have encountered on all of my journeys with David.
Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci Escorted by our gracious hosts and hotel owners Alfredo and Jackie, David and I were shown all that their property and area have to offer. If an ocean-side wedding is what you’ve dreamed of then look no further. With the local Mayan ruins in the distance and the ocean at your back, Ana y Jose’s Beach Club makes for one fabulous ceremonial environment. And no celebration, wedding or otherwise, would be complete without the food. Alfredo’s mother is beloved by locals for her delectable dishes featuring the area’s specialties, a culinary tradition which he has proudly continued in his modern kitchens, serving generous portions that could satiate the hungriest of men. David couldn’t get enough of Alfredo’s homemade hot sauce and left every dinner sniffling and smiling.

Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci The Mayan Riviera has SO much more to bring to the experience for adventuresome couples interested in exploring the hotel’s beautiful, exotic surroundings. In fact, it was while watching a giant sea turtle heave her heavy body across the sand dunes and bury her eggs by moonlight that David and I decided Ana y Jose simply had to be a part of the david beahm destinations collection. The indigenous ecological finds are truly unforgettable.

Traveling to Tulum with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci And so are the people! Allow me to paint you a picture: Imagine for a moment being escorted deep into the Mexican jungle to be met by the proud men of a private Mayan community whose ancestors have been residing in the jungle for hundreds of years. First you’re lifted into vibrant yellow canoes and paddled across the still and quiet waters of a cenote. The setting sun backlights tropical birds that alight from the trees and dance in the skies above. As you approach the opposite shore, you realize something even more magical and heart-warming awaits. The glowing light of torches, the smiles of the women and glimmering eyes of the children begin to take shape. Dressed in their indigenous garb, this community welcomes you (and your guests) to an event you will never forget… at least, I surely won’t.

Picks on Paper - Attire for Groom and Groomsmen

Well, I had a pretty good morning...and you will soon see why! Today's Picks on Paper is all about cool ensembles for the men in your life - the groom and his groomsmen - and I got to search for pictures of hunky guys allll morning (and part of last night!). Good times.

I might be in the minority here (I know that the whole "bad boy" - Johnny Depp thing is quite appealing to many), but I've always had a serious weak spot for a clean cut, well dressed man (like my hubby! ;) While the bride is often the center of attention on the wedding day, I also think that the men in your bridal party are extremely important because they really set the tone for the event. For instance, when we're trying to communicate how formal a wedding event is, we often describe it based on the men's attire - Black tie, white tie, etc.

Should your man decide to do it up right in a classic black tuxedo, or keep it super casual in a vest, no tie and rolled up sleeves, it's important that his style reflect the overall feeling of the day (or vice versa). Other than that though, there are no rules. I once saw a bridal party of groomsmen all wearing red flannel shirts! It may sound atrocious, but it was actually super cute because it matched the rest of the wedding day rather perfectly. Just make sure that your guy feels comfortable in whatever he wears, and remember that it is HIS day too!

With that being said, I've pulled together my top five favorite looks for the groom and his groomsmen. It was tough, I know, but somebody's gotta do it! ;)

Bridesmaid Gifts Groomsmen Gifts-Think Leather!

Bridesmaid Gifts Groomsmen Gifts- Think Leather. Looking for a gift for your bridesmaid and groomsmen? Consider the gift of leather. Leather gifts withstand the test of time and they have a distinguished quality about them. Let your special people know how much they really mean to you. Below I’ve selected a couple of my faves.

I absolutely love it when you tie in wedding colors through out all aspects of your wedding, including the wedding party gifts. And if you can't tie them into the gifts themselves think about including your wedding colors in the wrapping. How cute would these leather heart gifts be for someone having a pink wedding or a red wedding. I especially love the idea of giving the bridesmaid jewelry wraped in a reusable leather jeawelry case.

And if the wedding is a destination one I can't think of anything more adorable that the heart luggage tags. That you can give to your bridesmaids before they leave for your destination wedding.

Bridesmaid Gifts Groomsmen Gifts-Think Leather!  bridesmaid gifts

And lets not forget the boys! Leather makes unique groomsmen gifts too.  A popular groomsmen gift is the money clip, which looks much more distinquished in the leather version. The same goes for the groomsmen flask. The flask is elevated to another level with the sophisticated leather casing. And this particular one is one you can personalize if you are looking for an extra special touch.

Bridesmaid Gifts Groomsmen Gifts-Think Leather!  groomsmen gifts

All of these bridal party gifts are from Royce Leather and surprisingly affordable.  They were nice enought to send me a few of their leather goods to review. Including a great zip walet that my brother is getting for Christmas. But shhh don't tell him. Luckily he doesn't frequent wedding blogs so I think I'm safe. And yes I am one of those people who starts holiday shopping in June.

Thank you to Royce Leather. If you are looking for quality wedding party gifts consider the gift of leather.

Fanciful Feather Earrings

Fanciful Feather Earrings feather earrings

Fanciful Feather Earrings feather earrings weddings

Fanciful Feather Earrings. My love of all things feather also applies to feather earrings. Along with feather hair extensions I think everyone needs a pair of silver feather earrings in their jewelry box. And how perfect would feather earrings be if you were planing a bohemian wedding? Or how about as a gift to the bridesmaids.

I particulary love peacock feather earrings like the ones above. And even if I couldn't pull off large feather earrings (like the ones the model has on), I am envious of everyone who can.

And the beauty of feather earrings is they aren't hard to make. If you are interested in DIY feather earrings the coveted has a good video tutorial on making feather earrings .

And if you are looking to purchase feather earrings wholesale it is hard to beat Etsy for feather supplies.

So now armed with supplies and the DIY tutorial. You are ready. Be bold and make yourself some extra long feather earrings, like none other than the ones kesha has on in this feather earrings kesha video. Wowza.

Ok maybe those long feather earrings are a little too long for my taste or a wedding. But then again maybe not.

Are you loving the feathers?

Perfect Pin Ups!

Perfect Pin Ups!

Perfect Pin Ups! One of my friends gave this to her husband as a wedding gift. Not only do I love the idea I love the photography. My beautiful friend (you may recognize her from the feather boa post) looks amazing! Why shouldn't your groom's perfect pin up be YOU!

I love the vintage glam and soft seduction of pin ups. These vintage girls knew how to look beautiful and attractive without looking overtly sexual. A classic look that you can re-create and that your groom can cherish. It is a win win!

If you love pin ups check out pin up clothing where you can purchase sexy pin up looks. My favorite is the pin up swimwear. Or if you'd like to read more on the famous pin ups, including Bettie Page and Rita Hayworth check out these pin up images at Top Tenz.

All pin up photos are from ShenaLee Photography. What a fun thing to do for the bachlorette party, or for a groom's gift, or as a boudoir photography shoot, or even as a theme for a bachlorette party .

Why not do it pin up style?

Wedding Trend, Brooch Bouquets

Wedding Trend, Brooch Bouquets brooch-bouquet-miranda-lambert

Wedding Trend, Brooch Bouquet. Miranda Lambert, a well known country star just married Blake Sheldon another country artist and a judge on The Voice. (Which is my guity pleasure) At their wedding Miranda Lambert opted for a brooch bouquet . Pictured above is the wedding brooch bouquet Miranda Lambert had.

What I like best about the vintage brooch bouquet is that she had the bouquet made from vintage brooches given to her by friends and family. That little personal touch is so sweet. If you are crafty and want to make your our own vintage brooch bouquet check out my post on Brooch Bouquet DIY .

Miranda Lambert's vintage brooch bouquet creator is The Ritzy Rose. And she did a pretty spectacular job. Below I included more examples of brooch bouquets from Ritzy Rose.

Wedding Trend, Brooch Bouquets vintage brooch bouquets1. Wouldn't number one be pretty for a winter wedding: silver and sparkly.

2. The colors in the second one would be lovely for a Spring or Summer wedding.

3. And the third bouquet is my favorite a mix of vintage brooches and silk flowers.

What do you think of the brooch bouquet trend?

Terrific Tutus

Terrific Tutus. I recently tried on a tutu dress. I may have felt like Glinda, the good witch from the Wizard of Oz, but I loved it. And I didn't want to take it off.

Since my new found tutu love I decided to see what options are out there for the anyone looking to either purchase or make a tutu.

Adult tutus are so fun. And there are lots of Etsy vendors who will custom make one for you. I love this black tutu it's a bit of a punk tutu look.

Terrific Tutus black tutu

Not much is cuter than a baby tutu. Little babies in big poufy skirts that is hard to beat.

And how adorable is this flower girl tutu dress? They are little yellow fairies.

And what about this pretty in pink wedding dress that is also a tutu wedding dress.

Terrific Tutus pink wedding tutu dress

I just wrote a post about including dogs in the wedding . How's this for getting dolled-up? Looks like there is an alterantive to the dog bowtie.

Last but not least I found a how to make a tutu without sewing tutorial on Flicker of all places. And another on the blog Plumtickled, ' how to make a tutu ."

Sweet and Intimate Hawaiian Wedding

I've loved this destination wedding since the moment that I first saw it, and I'm excited to finally share it with you today! Kristen and Justin were married this past spring in a sweet, intimate ceremony at a private residence in Haena on the island of Kauai. This charming Hawaiian wedding was photographed by the talented Melissa Dunstan , who does an amazing job capturing all of the sweet wedding details and the amazing scenery that surrounded the couple on their day. Showcasing an elegant ivory, green and purple color palette, with vintage Hawaiian pieces and unique modern florals, Kim Duncan of KD Event Designs created a wedding that was full of pure warmth and authenticity.

Kristen and Justin were married in a simple wedding ceremony outside overlooking the Hawaiian coast, with an intimate dinner reception later following beneath the trees strung with white lights. The bride took her time collecting unique glassware from various antique shops in Kauai for guests to use at the reception, while dining on fresh, local Hawaiian cuisine prepared by Chef Grant Carnes. All of the paper goods, including the colorful dinner menus, were designed by event designer Kim Duncan. Vintage postcards were used in lieu of a guest book, which Kristen and Justin plan to read on their one year wedding anniversary next March 19, 2012.

I'm loving Kristen's rings, too, aren't you?! Justin designed the ring for her himself, using diamonds from his grandmother's own wedding rings. Such a sweet idea...it reminds me of a necklace that my mom had made for me for my 16th birthday using the diamond from her wedding ring.

Go Big or Go Home! Chandelier Earrings!

Go Big or Go Home! Chandelier Earrings! I love glits and glam. And it is hard to beat the glits of chandelier earrings. A popular trend today is to forgo the necklace and just go with some big bling costume chandelier earrings!

Here are a few tips for choosing the right bridal chandelier earrings for you: If you have a round or square face choose an elongaged chandelier earring style, earrings that start smaller at the top and increase in width as they near the bottom will make your face appear more narrow. If you have an oval face choose a chandelier earring that is wider and closer to the ear.

Can you picture a pair of these babies with a pink wedding dress ? I can.

Here are a few of my faves:

Which do you like best? I heart #3. But it could just be the pink background.

Refined New England Wedding

First, let me start off by congratulating today's bride, Emilia, who was very pregnant a couple of weeks ago when I was in touch with her to get more information for this post. Chances are, her and her husband, Chris are caring for their very own newborn at this very moment! Which makes me all the more happy to get to share their wedding day with you today, which was photographed by Corey Hendrickson , who I am quickly becoming a huge, huge fan of!

Emilia was an event planner living in New York City when she met Chris during one of her annual work trips to Sun Valley, Idaho in the summer. The couple did the long distance thing for about six months, and Emilia eventually moved to Sun Valley to be with Chris and continue her event planning work there. The couple welcomed 185 guests to their elegant wedding that began at the Aquinas House on the Dartmouth University campus in Hanover, New Hampshire. After the ceremony, guests were bused over to a gorgeous New England inn in Plainfield, where they enjoyed cocktails outside. In order to avoid the table visiting frenzy that often falls upon married couples, Chris and Emilia opted to greet each one of their guests just before entering the reception tent for dinner and dancing.

The refined reception tablescapes highlighted the wedding's green, orange and white color palette with an eclectic mix of ranunculus, orchids and succulents, among earthy greens, and fresh oranges, all designed by Lynda Dandeneau. An event planner herself, Emilia took on a majority of the wedding planning herself, with DIY details like the cake stand, which Emilia made using ribbon and dresser knobs that she collected from Anthropologie as the legs of the wooden stand. Her favorite detail of all though were the placecards, which were displayed at each placesetting using vintage clip-on earrings! Inspired by some of her own grandmother's earrings, Emilia spent nearly a year collecting vintage clip-on earrings, and when she realized that she wouldn't have enough time to collect all 185 pairs that she needed, she made some using vintage buttons. Emilia was happy to see some of her guests wearing their earrings later on in the evening!

What a wonderful weekend in Ojai at the ever so beautiful Ojai Valley Inn to celebrate a lovely wedding. Thanks Tiffany for all your help!

Love to capture the flowers and candles before they are placed on the tables. The ceremony area was a mixture of moss covered lanterns, moss spheres and the gazebo filled with greens, roses, and wild flowers. Nancy Kaye from Marks Garden did such a lovely job…Notice how they placed flowers inside the gazebo just for the Bride and Grooms view…great detail!

The Bride wore Carolina Herrera. Adore the back of the gown with the bows. The bouquet was filled with peonies and the bridesmaids peonies and a touch of amnesia roses.

The Unity candle rested in a bird nest basket with a floral and succulent arrangement

Look how cute the ring bearer is…and the couple had a precious idea of using a child’s fishing pole (the goom loves to fish) and tie the rings onto the fishing line. LOVE!

The seating cards lined the large oak table and the bride wanted us to scatter Milagros amongst them…the grooms mom is from Cuba …nice touch!

Some rectangle and square wood tables with linen runners and others were round with a full linen cloths. Multiple vessels filled with a variety of florals.

Take a look of the pink gamilla of course Marks Garden does a wonderful job on those…

Love all the lanterns over the Dance Floor , Raymond from Images by Lighting took that picture of me and designed all the beautiful lighting.

The delicious cakes were designed by Jamaica from Jamacias Cakes. The grooms cake was shaped like the state of Texas and the couple fishing was so darling! The wedding cake inspired by the couples wedding invitation. They both turned out so beautiful!

Hope you enjoyed the pics! xox MindyThe Wedding of Tarissa and David
