Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci

It’s the first Monday of the month… do you know what that means, lovelies? Time for another fabulously luxe travel column from Christina Matteucci of David Beahm Design , of course!
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci For those of you who’ve been following her column on Merci, Christina is Merci New York’s Destinations Expert. As Executive Director for david beahm destinations , Christina travels the world’s most beautiful locales – and lucky for us – she joins us each month to report upon her latest jaunts and inspirations…

So without further adieu, a warm welcome back to Christina, who recently returned to one of my personal favorite destinations, Mykonos…
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci For eight years, I’ve listened to David Beahm return from his annual vacation to Mykonos singing the praises of this little island jewel nestled in the middle of the Aegean Sea, and I must admit: I’ve been curious. Recently, he was absolutely adamant that we add several Myconian properties to our david beahm destinations collection; and I wholeheartedly agreed based upon his exuberant recommendation. But just what exactly was it that had captured David’s heart so fervently? I had to find out. Therefore, this July, I hopped the pond and spent 17 glorious days with David on Mykonos. No wonder Apollo, Artemis and an assemblage of Greek gods called this area home. It is, quite simply, heaven.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci Yes, Mykonos is filled with picturesque landscapes framed by crystal clear waters {think iconic windmills and white stucco homes offset by blue domes}, but what makes this little island truly beautiful is the love of life and humanity that abounds there. And that, my dear readers, is what sets Mykonos apart as a bastion for weddings – straight or gay, large or small, formal or raucous. Every person and every celebration is welcome.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci Of course, my stellar endorsement means nothing if you don’t know where to stay, let alone how to begin planning a wedding there! While exploring Mykonos you will notice a plethora of small churches, however, a wedding inside one is strictly limited to those of the Greek Orthodox faith. But don’t be discouraged! There are numerous locales for wedding celebrations, honeymoons or even just a simple romantic escape. Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci A proud member of the david beahm destinations collection, Aqua Living is an assortment of the most dynamic luxury villas Mykonos has to offer. Situated at various locations throughout the island, each property is distinctive, with options for groups of any size. Several residences sit within spacious complexes where all of your guests can be housed in a series of villas in close proximity to one another. One compound is so large, in fact, that there are eighty-three beds for your invitees to rest after a day of basking in the sun.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci While these properties feature most of the creature-comforts of a five-star boutique hotel, the team at Aqua Living is fully prepared to take your experience to a new level of luxury. A concierge service that includes a small army of private chefs, waiters and maids is available in addition to a litany of amenities that can be offered to both you and your guests.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci For those who absolutely require a traditional hotel experience with room service, nightlife and such, Cavo Tagoo, in Mykonos town-proper, provides the perfect coddling atmosphere. So coddling in fact that we recently had a guest at a david beahm destinations event plan a trip to Cavo Tagoo that was to last only six days, the duration of the celebration plus a bit of recreational padding. Its three weeks later and she still hasn’t left the island!
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci To be fair, the real magic happens on Mykonos when you integrate some of the unique local activities, ones that Greeks have been relishing in for thousands of years, into your planned festivities. A serene afternoon on a chartered boat to a private beach on the island of Delos makes for a magical welcome to your celebration. When combined with a beach barbecque of lamb, tuna, horiatiki, sea urchin and flowing Mastica liquor, your guests will leave questioning what could possibly await them the following day. Answer their doubts with an intimate ceremony at your private villa, surrounded by exquisite indigenous flowers, followed by cocktails and dinner encircling an infinity pool overlooking the Aegean – I do believe a celebratory broken plate or two might be in order. As you and your guests rejoice early into the morning, hearty cries of “Opa!” will float down to the water’s edge.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci And what better way to conclude your celebration than jetting off to a romantic honeymoon on nearby Santorini? Also part of the david beahm destinations collection, sister properties Vedema Resort and Mystique offer a perfect excuse for you to escape from your guests and begin your new life together. Only a twenty-minute plane-ride from Mykonos, you will feel worlds away in just a few moments – and let’s be honest – who wants to waste time traveling to their honeymoon when you can go from one paradise to another in less than a 1/2 hour? Once you are off to your private romantic escape, your friends and family can take advantage of their time on Mykonos by enjoying some sorely-needed R&R of their own.
Celebrating in Mykonos with David Beahm Destinations, by Christina Matteucci Editor’s Note: david beahm destinations is a by-invitation resource of amazing destination wedding, honeymoon and celebration locales, all expertly curated by the renowned David Beahm team. Merci New York readers can gain instant access to all of the properties mentioned in Christina’s articles, by entering code “Merci2011″ on the log-in page. Pretty fabulous, no?

Jello Shots on a stick? That might even be better than cake on a stick. Maybe- cake pops or jello shots tough to call.

How to make Jello Shots- Fancy Schmancy Jello Shots vodka jello shotsThese pretty cupcake jello shots look like anything but jello shots. But surprise they are. And did I mention they are pink and topped with sprinkles? A very hard combination to beat.

How to make Jello Shots- Fancy Schmancy Jello Shots cake jello shots

A good basic recipe for jello shots is to use the boiling water that the jello calls for, and then substitute the cold water for the alcohol. But be careful not to substitute all the cold water, because that makes the jello shots too strong, and not set right.  You can also substitute the cold water for juice.

Here is a how to make Jello shots video that will give you a step by step. And if you are feeling fancy, all of the jello shot recipes and pictures above are from the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen blog. But they also have a book! It is ten dollars and if you are looking to amaze your guests with gourmet jello shots well worth the investment.

You could even use jello shots as edible wedding favors. I bet they wouldn't last long. And they could be corrdinated with wedding colors, wedding themes, or a favorite drink of the couple. The possibilities are endless.

On cuisine at home, I also found my favorite jello shot recipe so far. And I can't wait to try it. I love margaritas and a jello shot margarita is right up my alley!

Ingredients:
1 small Fresh Apple
3/4 cup Agave (Silver) Tequila
1/2 cup Apple Cider Or Apple Juice
1/2 cup Cranberry Juice Cocktail
2 Tbsp Frozen Lemonade Concentrate, thawed and strained to remove solids
2 Envelopes Plain Gelatin
1/4 cup Cointreau Or Triple Sec
Garnish
1 Tbsp Coarse Salt (Kosher Or Sea)
1 Tbsp Large Crystal Sugar
1 tsp Chopped Orange Zest

Directions:
In a small bowl, crush the apple with a cocktail muddler or back of a wooden spoon. Add the tequila. Set aside.

Pour cider, cranberry juice and lemonade concentrate into a saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow to soak for a few minutes. Heat on low, stirring constantly, until gelatin is fully dissolved (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat.

Strain the tequila, making sure to press out all the liquid. Stir the tequila and Cointreau/Triple Sec into the gelatin mixture. Pour into pan, and chill until set, several hours or overnight.

Mix the garnish ingredients together, and either serve the garnish alongside the jelly shots, for dipping, Individual serving vessels may also be decorated with the garnish mixture as shown by wetting the rim and dipping into the garnish mixture. Place a jelly shot in each.

Yum!

Jello Shots aren't for everyone but that just leaves more for the rest of us. What do you think of fancy schmancy jello shots?

Hi Friends!
This lovely wedding at the Beverly Wilshire was full of flowers and sparkle. Their monogram was carried throughout but the flowers and chandeliers were a plenty! The bride loves mirrors so we added them in the ballroom. I love the bouquet that Mark’s Garden designed all out of clear vintage broaches. Lehr and Black designed the invites and the menus pictured below. Revelry’s fabric and stage treatment was devine. But I especially love how they hung the chandeliers as it came out of the fabric. The tufted bars and coffee station (the bride drinks several coffees a day!) were a hit and everyone enjoyed the custom coffee cups we made for the guests. Michelle’s dress was a WOW! Reem Acra’s custom gown was so breathtaking! Love Reem! Then the bride changed into another custom dress by Mark Zunino …gorgeous! We had to changeover the room after the ceremony but we were able to repurpose most of the decor.  We added an hour to re-set and make the room look like a new environment.  I tried to take pictures of the guys putting the “Look” together on the tables…I’m not sure how I missed taking a picture of the ceremony but I did get a lot of the “Changeover” .  The groom is a basketball player so the Cake Divas designed a fabulous wedding cake and darling delicious grooms cake.  There were a lot of tall guys there as you can see from the picture I took with the bride and groom.  The guests left with a personalized candle and the couple chose gardinia for their candle scent.  Enjoy! xoxMindyWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and BenoWedding of Michelle and Beno

Tuesday Shoesday | Christian Louboutin for Marchesa

Welcome back to our Tuesday Shoesday series {one of our favorite days of the week on Merci}. We l.o.v.e. sharing wedding related accessory inspiration with our readers, and today we’re taking a cue from the Fall 2011 Marchesa runway, where models sported custom designed Christian Louboutin shoes…
Tuesday Shoesday | Christian Louboutin for Marchesa Good old Loubou is no stranger to the Marchesa runway; he often custom creates a collection that marries back to each of Marchesa’s feminine frocks. This time, Christian Louboutin stepped away from his signature silhouette, adding lace applique from one of the season’s most talked about dresses {as show above on the runway and later on Rachel McAdams at Cannes}.
Tuesday Shoesday | Christian Louboutin for Marchesa Here are a few other fabulous Loubous from the show… Look closely. Can you spot a trend?
Much like the Marchesa dresses, these shoes were simple in silhouette but big on embellishment. Often Louboutin didn’t even add the lace to the actual shoe design; most are applique or booties added over or under the same silhouette for a little extra umph.
Stylist note: Are you a fashionista bride on a budget? Why not add a lace anklet beneath a simply designed wedding maryjane – or bit of lace applique from your dress – for an unexpected, yet runway inspired touch?
xx,

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas!

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! Umbrellas are near and dear to my heart. Probably because I'm from Seattle. And if you live in Seattle you know, you either love the rain or you don't go out.

But what about if it rains on your wedding day? Traditionally rain on your wedding day was considered bad luck. But oh how the times have changed. The creative pictures below all show fabulous ways to incorporate wedding umbrellas and will make you want your wedding day to be a rain-filled one.

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! white umbrellas

I love this black and white shot under an umbrella. Classic and pretty.

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! wedding accessoriesThis group shot with wedding umbrellas is so great. And why not consider using parasols as an alternative to wedding bouquets .

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! wedding umbrella

This shot looks like the couple just snuck away for a little under the umbrella kiss. It is so romantic.

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! wedding decorations

And this could be the most creative use of a wedding umbrella yet. Wedding umbrellas as wedding reception decorations; I like this idea just as much as paper lanterns !

The above wedding umbrella pictures are from photgrapher Michelle M. Waite.

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! vintage umbrellas

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! wedding colorsThe two pictures above are from Ontario photographer Taylor Jackson. I love how the wedding umbrellas match the wedding colors. That blue umbrella is pretty great. And I kinda love the bride's tea length wedding dress too.

Let it Rain - Wedding Umbrellas! picture propsThe last picture is from Seattle photographer Kirk Mastin. And it is from an engagement shoot. It reminds me of the Hollies song, "Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say please share my umbrella..." The red umbrella adds a very fun bit of color.

So what do you think? Are you doing the rain dance yet?

57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings

57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings It’s not often that I say this, so I’ll begin with a dramatic pause… Ready for it?… There truly is such a thing as a rewearable bridesmaid dress.
And it comes from the lovely ladies at 57 Grand .
57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings When I first laid eyes on 57 Grand ‘s gorgeous collection {and had the chance to style their first advertising campaign, no less!} I fell in l.o.v.e. with the line. I mean, honestly, love. In true fashionista form, my mind began racing with all the many ways their dresses could be restyled: Date night with the husb. {Check!} Brunch with the girls. {Check!} Weekend in the Hamptons. {Check!} Business cocktails after work. {Double Check!} After some major style daydreaming, it took quite a bit of concentration to reel myself back to reality and focus on 57 Grand’s initial raison d’être: Super-chic and affordable bridesmaid dresses – crafted in NYC- with the style-minded city girl in mind. Brilliant.
57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings 57 Grand co-owners Carmen Ho and Saukok Tiampo channeled their NYC life experiences, as well as their backgrounds in the Manhattan finance and fashion industries, when designing their line. The colors are trend-right to the fashion world. The fabrics are {shh!} bought from the same mills as many high-fashion couture designers. And the ordering process cannot be more efficient or convenient. Brides can visit 57 Grand’s NYC showroom, which is conveniently located in the Garment District, work with a slew of retailers around the country, or have samples shipped directly to their home for quick consideration. {Warning: You won’t want to give them back}.
57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings Want another reason to love this New York line? After seasons of stellar reviews, 57 Grand just took the leap into bridal – and it’s beyond fabulous. Some of their best-selling silhouettes have smoothly transitioned into darling reception dresses, and other bridal gowns are completely new designs, which adhere to the 57 Grand philosophy that stylish and versatile need not be expensive. The bridal collection ranges from $450 – $1,250.
57 Grand | {Truly} Versatile Dresses for City Weddings Oh – and one more thing. Did I mention that 57 Grand names their dresses after Manhattan streets? Super cute.

Happy shopping!
