Cheers to the New Year! | Life by the Bayside

When I sat down to reflect on this last year I asked myself what the surprising, challenging, or successful elements were that made up the last three hundred and sixty five days. Answer after answer led to Bayside Bride. My year was filled with wedding vendor happy hours, styled shoots, a bridal shoot by Travis Curry (which I’m excited to share in the coming month!!), a Charm City Cakes event, being published in Baltimore Bride magazine, and the chance to speak alongside Natalie and Liz & Ryan for ShowIt Live . People, filled to the brim with passion and drive, were the driving force behind 2013. Last January I couldn’t have dreamed that I would get to share each and every day with thousands of bayside brides and blog readers!

Anyone who has received an email from me knows that I always leave off the end of every message with “Cheers!” I can’t think of a better way to bring in the New Year than with cheers and blessings! 2014 is bound to be a great one – one reason being that it’s the first year we will all have access to the incredible resource and inspiration that is Life by the Bayside !

Natalie, Krista, and Courtney are so excited to share their labor of love! After more than a year of planning, today marks the site’s official launch! They formed Life by the Bayside to share their love of Chesapeake Living.  Each lovely lady in the trio adds a different element to the mix – from sharing Courtney’s expertise as an Interior Designer, to Krista’s love for DIY + home renovation, to Natalie exploring her inner domestic goddess – Life by the Bayside is their way to share life, love, and the work that goes into chasing dreams.

Don’t let your wedding loving hearts fret though! Bayside Bride is back and ready for the year as well! We have so many things that we are excited to share with you! On the books for this month is a look at 2014 bridal trends shot and designed by Travis Curry and Amie Decker Beauty . This month will also begin nominations and voting for the Chesapeake Bridal Awards , an incredible platform for you to share your love for the vendors who have helped craft and perfect your big day! There will be stunning posts with weddings from Katie Nesbit, Love by Serena, Natalie Franke, and Shawn Hubbard to name a few! And finally an engagement party style post from our favorite fashion guru (Sukey of Dress for the Wedding)! Phew … way too much beauty for one month – how will the following eleven live up to it?!

Christmas Engagement Photo Ideas by JoPhoto

Christmas Engagement Shoot Ideas

For this Christmas engagement style shoot, the designers at The Bride Link and Custom Love Gifts teamed up with JoPhoto and L.B. Floral to inspire newlyweds everywhere with ideas to make their Christmas engagement photos unique and memorable. These ideas were focused around projects couples could create together and items that could be customized with their new last name. To showcase these ideas in a unique way, a full living room set was designed among the cozy Christmas trees at Bluebird Christmas Tree Farm .

With the vision of bringing the warmth of a home Christmas to the rustic beauty of the outdoors, the rows of Virginia pine and Fraser firs created the perfect “walls” for this couple’s first home Christmas. Be inspired by this Christmas style shoot for your own engagement photos or even for your first Christmas together as newlyweds!

More from the designers:

Antique furniture provided by Restoration Rentals made a comfortable living room for real life couple Mike & Teresa. The mantel was flanked by buckets of presents and topped with a custom floral design by L.B. Floral and a handmade garland of burlap, lace, and holiday ribbon created by Ruffles and Rouge.

L.B. Floral adorned the Christmas tree with handmade decorations, burlap, bows, and pinecones plucked straight from her backyard.  Presents were wrapped in Kraft paper, plaid, and gingham ribbon, just like you would find in a country home.  To make the gifts extra special, adornments like jingle bells, handpicked greenery, and hand-dyed tags were added to each one.

All the fixin’s for a Christmas morning breakfast waited in the cupboard, including sugar and spice mix, pancake mix, hot chocolate mini mugs, maple syrup and a sleigh full of jams and jellies, all from Custom Love Gifts’ online store. Gail’s Custom Cake’s showcased her new layered cake in a jar, named “Country Bumpkins!”

The designers sprinkled rustic elements like cedar and burlap throughout the design to tie in the outdoor setting.  An antique hutch served as the perfect spot to hang handmade burlap stockings with Mr. & Mrs. stenciled designs.  The couple enjoyed mugs of hot cocoa and even stole a couple of cookies from Santa’s tray.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Isn’t DIY Friday just the best!?! Today we are sharing our very last 12 Months of Martha project for 2013, I’ve had such a wonderful time with this year long concept and I hope you’ve enjoyed it too! How to make these darling ribbon bow rings ~ which will make wonderful bridesmaid or holiday gifts! These super fun cocktail rings make your hands look fancy!

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

SUPPLIES:

  • 18″ of fun ribbon per ring
  • silver or gold ring bases
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric Stiffener
  • paint brush
  • sharp scissors
  • E6000 Glue
  • little box
  • optional: MSC Decoupage Glue, Craft Paint and Glitter

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

The only talent that you will need for this project is being able to tie a cute bow.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Starting with 18″ of any type of ribbon, tie a cute bow.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Next, liberally apply Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric Stiffener to your entire bow.

/////   CRAFTERS TIP   /////

The fabric stiffener can change the look of your ribbon; in some types of ribbon it will make the color appear darker. Make sure to paint a test strip of your ribbon with the fabric stiffener first, to see if it changes your ribbon color and if you like it!

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Make sure to thoroughly saturate your bow with fabric stiffener. Inside the loops and all. Front and back. Top and Bottom. Then let it dry completely, usually takes a few hours. Here we are doing this step on a piece of waxed paper, which is recommended.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Once your bow is dry you are ready to glue it to the ring base. First you want to make sure that where you are gluing is a steady and flat surface. I cut holes in a little box, then inserted the ring base – this way the bow will dry on a flat surface.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Here are our bows fully dry…

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Place a small dot of E6000 glue onto each ring base and then press your bow into the glue. Make sure your bow is drying at the right angle… you might need to prop the bow ends up with something like a folded piece of paper or the like. The angle that your bow dries is the angle you are stuck with. This glue takes 24 hours to dry completely.

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

There you have it… a darling ribbon bow ring!

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

Now for fun embellishments… you can paint them with craft paint…

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

You can add glitter with decoupage glue! One coat of glue, shake on the glitter and finish with another coat of glue once the first coat is fully dry…

DIY | stiff ribbon bow rings

And if you want your ribbon bow rings to have a specialty finish like gloss or glow in the dark, you can paint them with any of Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage glues of your choice!
