Bonfires were a pretty big part of my life growing up. Friends and neighbors would gather around the firepit on Friday nights with cups of my mom’s hot apple cider, my Aunt Jill’s amazing food, drinks and s’mores. I was so excited when Davey and I moved into our new house this fall because we finally have a yard to host our own weekend bonfires. We built our firepit ourselves and we’re actually going to share a full step-by-step recap once Life by the Bayside officially launches.
Until then, we’re sharing a few images from our last bonfire as well as my mom’s hot apple cider recipe!
Hot Apple Cider
Ingredients:
Gallon Jug of Apple Cider (produce aisle of the grocery store)
Whole Cloves (1 tsp.)
Cinnamon Sticks (3 or so)
Nutmeg (2 tsp.)
Orange Slices
Rum
To Make:
I throw the gallon of cider in the croc pot (on high) for about four hours before I plan to serve it. I throw in a few orange slices and put the spices in a spice bag. You could also use a spice ball (I just don’t have one) or cheesecloth. I usually hold off adding the rum until I serve the cider in case we have guests who prefer the non-alcoholic version.
And of course, hot cider is best enjoyed with friends on chilly days!
