Swooning over Lover.ly | Our Latest Obsession

You may have heard the buzz about the Wedding Industry’s latest obsession or seen the cute little badge on our sidebar directing you to Lover.ly – But just incase you’ve been living under a rock, and I’m not referring to the swoonworthy bling on your finger, we wanted to explain to our readers why we are absolutely smitten with the ultimate wedding search engine!

So what exactly is Lover.ly?

“Lover.ly is a new visual search engine and cloud scrapbook for all your wedding inspiration. We bring quality content, search-ability, technology and inspiration in one place. Lover.ly has an archive of over 100,000 images organized by our blogging editors and community of users– our database is updating and evolving daily.”

Swooning over Lover.ly | Our Latest Obsession

And within this search engine you can browse by color (blush, navy, tangerine, yellow), texture (lace, burlap, wood), detail (shoes, invitations, jewelry) and instantly be surrounded by the beautiful images you were looking for!

You can then select the images that inspire you and gather them into bundles which you can unlock to share with friends and family – or keep locked in order to keep your bundles private! Below is my very own Lover.ly Profile, which I find myself bundling to all the time! I have a few bundles that I keep locked away and others that I share with my friends and brides!

Swooning over Lover.ly | Our Latest Obsession

And as a photographer and content-creator, the thing that I love most about Lover.ly – one of many things that truly sets it apart… is the underlying dedication and active pursuit of properly crediting the vendors that went into the creation of a given image! In other search engines, I find myself wondering – who photographed this gorgeous bride? Where was this wedding held? Where can I find those bridesmaids dresses?

And Lover.ly enables it’s publishers – like Bayside Bride – to enter in the vendor information that we receive to photographers with each and every post that publishes to their search engine! That way, when a photographer captured a spectacular wedding – they will get the proper credit they deserve for those images! It also allows the blogs who receive submissions to get credit for publishing great content! It’s truly a win-win for everyone!
Swooning over Lover.ly | Our Latest Obsession

And in a time where so many creative professionals find their images being used all over the web without credit – having a search engine that works to connect brides with the products and vendors that they swoon over, gets an A+ in my book! You can also find bridesmaids dresses, stationary, and accessories for sale – which is an incredible new feature! It’s about time that brides could not only find the vendors they love and the details they desire – but actually know how to support the small businesses that went into making those images possible!

If you haven’t checked out Lover.ly yet – seriously head on over! You can also browse all of the content that we’ve published to Lover.ly by clicking on our little banner in the sidebar, or heading over to the Bayside Bride Page !

In the Bride’s Words: “After four years of being together and almost two years of wedding planning, April 28, 2012 finally came and the day ended up being perfect. The week leading up to our wedding the weather report was showing picture perfect weather, once the day got closer rain threatened to ruin our chance of an outdoor wedding and photos. On the day of, 5:00PM came and no rain yet, luckily we got to have our ceremony outside and even get all our photos outside taken. Once we took our last shot that’s when the rain rolled in…talk about luck! One of the many highlights of the night was after our first dance to “The Day Before You” by Rascal Flatts when the DJ read off a letter sent personally from the band, Rascal Flatts, congratulating us and saying how honored they were that we chose their song for our first dance. Sadly the night came to an end and after the boardwalk fries were served and gobbled up our luck kicked in again, the rain suddenly stopped and we were able to have our sparkler exit. Once we got in the car the rain started again, we truly had someone looking over us on our special day. We can’t thank our family and friends enough for all of their love and support while helping us make these unforgettable memories. A special thank you to my mother and father who spent the last two years making sure I had the wedding of my dreams.”

Picks on Paper - Groom's Attire

While working on this post today, I was curious...How many of your guys really cared about what they wore, and how many just said, "Tell me what, when and wear, and I'll be there" ? I would say that my husband was a little of both. He needed final approval, I guess you could say. I didn't choose anything too crazy for him though; we got married on the beach in Mexico, so he wore a tan linen suit with no tie and sandals. Pretty standard beach wedding attire, I think.

My husband kept his look pretty simple, but take it from me, your guy's attire can, in fact, get somewhat complicated. Dress shirts, slacks, cummerbunds, waistcoats, ties, ascots, kerchiefs, single-breasted, double-breasted, tails, strollers, lapels, suspenders...I could go on and on! I decided that today, I wanted to break down the groom's and his groomsmen attire into five main Picks, so that we all know exactly what we're getting into.

Picks on Paper - Groom's Attire

Formal Menswear

Like most things nowadays, there are few rules that aren't meant to be broken when it comes to weddings. However, there are three main categories of menswear - Black Tie, White Tie and Classic Suit. Black Tie is typically characterized by a black jacket with satin trims, black slacks and a black bow tie (although I think that a traditional black tie works well with a tux, too!). White Tie sounds exactly how it sounds. It's technically considered the most formal of the menswear styles, with a tailcoat (short in front, long in the back), white vest and a bow tie. The Classic Suit has the loosest guidelines, including a jacket, slacks and a tie in all styles, colors and fabrics.

The Jacket

Ready for this? There are five different kinds of formal jackets, all of which can be characterized by three different kinds of lapels. Oh, the possibilities!

Jacket Styles

  • Single-breasted tuxedo, a long, classic look with a single button fastening.
  • Double-breasted tuxedo, often a more traditional option distinguished by a double button fastening.
  • Stroller, a jacket similar to a tuxedo jacket but without the satin lining.
  • Morning coat, the most formal option for a daytime wedding usually comes in black, charcoal or gray and is cut into a long "tail" in the back; often paired with an ascot.
  • Full-dress tails, the most formal option for black- and white tie weddings.

As far as the lapels go, there are three styles (shown below left to right) - Notch lapels, which is the most common style out there; Peaked lapels, a more dramatic cut often found on more formal tuxedos; and Shawl lapels, which have no notches, and have a softer, rounded edge that generally has a more vintage feel to it.

Waistcoats and Vests

Waistcoats and vests are essentially the same thing; they're called vests here in the U.S. and Canada, and Waistcoats abroad in the UK. Vests are often worn underneath the suit or tuxedo jacket, but they are definitely making a big trend up nowadays, and are often being worn alone, without a jacket. Vests, in particular, look great with a crisp white shirt rolled up to the elbows, along with a traditional tie or bow tie.

Ties, Bow ties and Ascots

Yes, I said Ascots! I'll admit that they're considered somewhat dated at the moment, but ascots are a third, less popular option to adorn your groom's neck. Additionally, there are ties, which are the most casual of the three options, as well as bow ties, which are a quirky option when paired with a more casual suit and more upscale when worn with a tuxedo!

Suspenders, Cuff Links, Socks and Kerchiefs

If you're looking to add a little more flair to your groom's wedding day look, try getting creative with a pair of funky suspenders or socks! Despite the fact that suspenders have become more and more trendy lately, they actually serve a more practical purpose! You're not supposed to wear a belt with a tux, so instead, you should wear suspenders! The cummerbund, which I haven't featured here for obvious reasons, is also worn to cover the bottom part of the suspenders. Cuff links and kerchiefs are definitely the most common accessories for the men in your bridal party, and it's a great way to pull a suit together.

Cuff links in onyx, gold and silver are classic choices, while mother-of-pearl cuff links are traditional for a white-tie dinner jacket. As for the kerchief, a white linen or cotton handkerchief are best suited for a tux, while other suit styles can work with a variety of handkerchief fabrics, colors and patterns.

Priscilla McGarity’s Fit 2 Be Wed program aims to help brides get fit and fabulous for their wedding day! Through fitness classes and personal training, the goal is to help brides, grooms, and the whole wedding party get energized and healthy for the upcoming nuptials.

All of the stress of planning a wedding and the pressure to look perfect for pictures can get overwhelming, and Fit 2 Be Wed is the perfect way to relieve stress and get in shape for the big day.

Fit 2 Be Wed has something for everyone. With several different packages ranging from basic fitness classes to personal training plus meals, brides of all budgets can benefit from this program. The most basic package, Bridal Blast Bootcamp, is $72 for a month of 2 training sessions per week. Other choices include group classes and extra personal training sessions, which gives brides several different options.

And keep in mind, this program isn’t just for brides! Bridesmaids, grooms, groomsmen, mothers of the bride, and anyone preparing for a wedding can benefit from Fit 2 Be Wed. Priscilla describes the program as “a great way to bond” with the wedding party. The classes give everyone an opportunity to look their best at the wedding through strength training and metabolic interval training.

Classes begin outside, with a warm up and circuits of strength training. They then move inside to sessions of high intensity metabolic interval training, which involve 30 seconds of work and 30 seconds of rest. Priscilla advises brides to “get off of the treadmill, and get into the weight room” for optimum results.

Priscilla, a personal trainer who is also engaged, started the program in March after thinking that other brides-to-be might want some help shaping up for their weddings. Her high-energy classes and expert guidance are already earning rave reviews.

“I’ve done a lot of workout classes. This is the best one I’ve done,” says bride-to-be Jennifer Mercier. She began taking the class in March in preparation for her February wedding in Punta Cana. She brought along her friend, Melissa Cheetham, who fell in love after attending one class. Both women have been reaping the benefits of Priscilla’s Fit 2 Be Wed program, and plan on continuing taking classes even after the wedding is over.

Whether you are a bride, groom, part of a wedding party, or even just attending a wedding, Fit 2 Be Wed is a fun and affordable way to get toned, fit, and healthy. For more information, check out Priscilla McGarity’s Website !

Lisbon, Portugal | Destination Honeymoon

Lisbon, Portugal | Destination Honeymoon

Although I’ve been to Portugal many times with my family (my parents were both born there), it wasn’t until a few summers ago that we explored Lisbon. Both of my parents hadn’t been there in years and were astonished at the development of sleek modern architecture and exciting nightlife. However, what fascinated me the most were its older charms. The museums filled with art, china, and textiles from Portugal’s colonial past, small espresso shops hailing back to the 1800s, old trolleys running up and down hilly streets, and magnificent forts and castles were just some of the sights that awed me.

Even for the beach lover Lisbon is the perfect destination. Lisbon has an oceanfront view with it’s own beaches but you can also head to nearby Cascais to play along pristine sand along with European celebrities.

Dining in Lisbon is a feast for the seafood lover but Portuguese cuisine also provides lots of hearty meat dishes. When in Lisbon, be sure to try Portuguese paella, homemade bread, seafood, and caldo verde a delicious and comforting light soup made with kale and chorizo. Pastries are filled with egg and cream creations that will melt in your mouth. Be sure to snack on one of these during the day, most restaurants don’t serve dinner until 8pm or later.

My best friend Caroline went to Lisbon last summer while studying abroad in Spain, and this was her take on the incredible and unique city, “ Going to Lisbon was one of the best parts of my trip to Europe. I loved being able to see the history and culture that is still so prominent there and the beaches nearby were absolutely beautiful. Even the nightlife was something so fun and unique that I’ve never experienced before. It was such amazing place to be able to visit.”

ArtCarved Bridal | Americana Collection

This month, I had the incredible privilege to be a Guest Blogger for Art Carved Bridal as part of their ongoing Style Series where bloggers dish on their fashion inspiration, dream wedding, and how ArtCarved fits into their daily style!

It was so much fun putting together a post for their blog and I really loved becoming more familiar with their stunning engagement and wedding rings!

ArtCarved Bridal | Americana Collection View the full inspiration board, here .

Raised along the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, it’s no surprise that I have a love for all things nautical and an appreciation for the water! These images immediately came to mind when creating my guest-blogger inspiration board!

As all of my closest girlfriends know, I couldn’t live without my Sperry’s, green tea, or pearl earrings… And if you catch me preparing for an engagement session in historic downtown – you’re likely to catch me in boatshoes, my classic pearl studs, and a Starbucks unsweetened green tea in hand! My style is feminine and classic, my love for sweet southern traditions has blossomed in recent years, and I’m dreaming of a soft color palette for my wedding!

I was asked to pick an engagement ring from one of their collections that exemplified the style of my dream wedding! A task that at first seemed simple became excitedly overwhelming – as I found myself smitten with almost every ring in the Americana Collection !

ArtCarved Bridal | Americana Collection

With stone styles that range from your traditional round brilliant to princess, emerald, oval, and pear-shaped cuts – How’s a girl to pick just one? One of the aspects that I really loved about ArtCarved’s Americana Collection was the wide range of different metal options! Rings can be made in Platinum, 18K White or Yellow Gold, 14K White or Yellow Gold, and Palladium – giving every bride to be her perfect ring from stone to setting!

My eye was at first drawn to this engagement ring with a elegant take on the solitare and then the Callie with a split shank band that drew your eye directly to the center stone!

As I kept browsing through the rings – I quickly stumbled upon the spectacular Ariel Ring and it took my breath away! This gorgeous engagement ring has an oval shaped center stone which is brilliantly surrounded by diamonds and complimented by a pave diamond band.
ArtCarved Bridal | Americana Collection

What immediately drew me into the Ariel ring was the spectacular shimmer of the encircling diamonds, which reminded me of blinding glimmer of coastal waters and the luminance of the sun’s reflection on the Bay. It also captures my love for vintage heirlooms and speaks to my love for statement pieces, which have evolved from my love of the 1950’s fashion inspired by my grandmother!

I think I may have also found my wedding band when I was browsing through their gorgeous selection and if you haven’t visited ArtCarved Bridal before – I highly recommend taking a browse through their website! So many stunning pieces and jewelers around the country – including a few in the Chesapeake Area!

I absolutely loved being a guest bridal blogger for ArtCarved Bridal and hope you enjoy looking through the Full Post on the ArtCarved Bridal Blog!

Herrington on the Bay Wedding | Egomedia Photography

We simple love Navy couples – especially those that get married in downtown Annapolis before zipping to a stunning waterfront reception along the Chesapeake Bay! Today’s wedding by egomedia photography is absolutely radiant – we know you’ll love it to!

“Jillian and Mike met when they were both students at the USNA in Annapolis. A waterfront wedding on the Chesapeake Bay was perfect for these two. They had their ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Annapolis, surrounded by friends and family (military and civilian!) and then after some portraits, we headed to Herrington on the Bay for their tented waterfront reception. The rain held off until we were inside, but everyone still enjoyed the view and dinner, dancing, and toasts.”
