Elderflower Bubbly | L.A. Birdie

It’s a simple joy to hold something rare in your hands. No, I’m not talking diamonds or anything of value really, but rather something that is not too common here in America. Today’s mocktail recipe features Elderflower, a honeysuckle-like syrup made from Elderberry. This syrup is commonly used in Europe for soft drinks, but it’s pretty hard to find here at home.

When planning for my sister’s bridal shower I thought about things that she would value – one of those things was her time abroad in Europe. And suddenly I found myself thinking about what they served in our favorite English tea room (besides tea that is). Elderflower Bubbly of course! This mocktail has my own little twist though.

Things you’ll need:

– Elderflower Syrup
– Pelligrino
– Grapefruit

Fill a glass with 2 tablespoons of Elderflower Syrup, add ice, fill the glass with Pelligrino and add a spritz of grapefruit. It’s so easy which makes it perfect to set out at a bridal shower and allow your guests to make it at will!

DIY Gray + Yellow Bridal Shower

“Abigail is one of those people that cares so much about other people, but never expects it in return. Because of that, her bridesmaids wanted to throw her the perfect shower. Being one of her bridesmaids myself I helped plan, excite, and enjoy this special day for Abby. All of us girls were on a budget so we needed to be very cost aware, but we still wanted to throw a good shower. We delegated obligations, took over her mom’s house, and only had a few minor panics. Since Abby and her soon-to-be husband love to cook together, we decided to have a kitchen themed shower. All of the paper goods had silverware and dishes on them, we gave away hand stamped tea towels for favors, and (my favorite) had everyone write a word of advice on a wooden spoon. Overall the day ended up great, and perfect for our bride to be. There were lots of laughs, hugs, and love towards this wonderful girl that we all cherish. Seeing her be a bit emotional because of all of the love coming her way was an absolute delight for me. My favorite quote of the day? “This is the best shower I’ve ever been to!!” – Spencer Studios

“My favorite things about my bridal shower were seeing the faces of all my beautiful friends, how well everything was coordinated and how thoughtful the kitchen theme was! I absolutely love cooking and my bridesmaids took all of that into consideration…

DIY Gray + Yellow Bridal Shower

..All of the decorations, invitations, game cards, food, and favors were DIY-ed by my bridesmaids! They made an adorable flag banner from fabric scraps and ribbon, a fabric floral arrangement of epic proportions, hand-stamped tea towels to give to guests, matching stationary for the invites and thank-you’s PLUS cards to use during game time, pretty paper badges for myself and the winners of each game, and they even made me a fabric bouquet. It was precious and entirely scrapbook-worthy! A perfect way to say bon-voyage right before my destination wedding…

..Our wedding was a planned elopement, so there wasn’t a lot of decoration required but I did DIY my hair piece for our ceremony! It’s now one of my favorite DIY projects. I took my great-grandmother’s old string of pearls and turned it into a hair comb. It’s the sentimental things that meant the most to me at our wedding. In addition to the comb, I broke the flower bouquet tradition and carried a journal. Over the years, we’ve written letters to each other in this journal, and now our vows are kept among them! But the best part of all was simply marrying the man I loved and sharing it in a beautiful, intimate setting!” – Abigail the bride

Wedding in Sunbury, Georgia at Dunham Farms

Wedding at Dunham Farms by Gagan Dhiman

Give me a good ole southern wedding and I am one happy girl! This beautiful wedding at Dunham Farms in Sunbury, Georgia is such a lovely inspiration for anyone planning a spring wedding, southern or not. Surrounded by gorgeous, historic oaks, Chrissy walked down the aisle on the 9,000 acre farm in a classic, off the shoulder, lace wedding gown. The setting was an outdoor venue full of natural beauty and the ceremony followed suit. From Chrissy’s flowing curls to Josh’s no-jacket look, the ceremony took on a natural, relaxed tone. The fields of Dunham Farms made for a spectacular setting for some intimate pictures of the newlyweds. I particularly like how Gagan Dhiman Photography was able to use the setting sun as a beautiful aspect of the photos; the twilight gives them that much more of a romantic feeling. Chrissy and Josh have a very sweet and unique love story that Gagan Dhiman shared with us. Take a look below for a few words from the groom!

How did you two meet?
We met volunteering at a Christian Teen Center. It’s a place where teens go to hangout on the weekends and instead of drinking and doing drugs, they play ping pong, pool, fellowship, hear a sermon, and worship God through songs.

What is special about you two?
What’s special about us is that we went and picked out Chrissy’s wedding ring two weeks after dating and were engaged only three weeks after that. I work for Oracle and sell enterprise level software to billion dollar companies. After getting engaged, Chrissy left working as an accountant to take on the role of wedding planning as she is transitioning into a stay at home mom and wife.

Pink Peonies Wedding | Angelina Photography

There’s just something about pink peonies… this pink and cobalt wedding captured by Angelina Photography has a punch of color and romance!

Angelina told us that, “After threatening to rain all day, the sun came out in time for the ceremony looking over the South River. Erin and Joe’s reception took place in a perfect Southern tented reception area, with lush green gardens to one side, and the river to the other. The groom’s brother, part of the local band Watermelon, got the dance floor moving with classic rock songs!”

DIY Wedding | Fletcher + Katrina

“I feel so lucky to have been able to join Katrina and Fletcher on their wedding day. It was obvious just how much in love they are which makes a wedding more beautiful than any decoration possibly could. However, all of Katrina’s amazing handmade details definitely made a lovely impression! It was just as marvelous watching their families come together decorating, cooking, and making the day perfect for the two of them. I think every photographer wishes they had more couples like this.” – Star Noir Studio

“Fletcher was insistent that we did not see each other at all the day of the wedding, which I was at first skeptical about, but then I completely got on board with. Throughout the day, we’d send our bridesmaids/groomsmen on reconnaissance missions to the main floor of the cabin to check if the coast was clear. When we did the pictures on the mountain with our wedding party, Fletcher and the groomsmen went first, and I came with my bridesmaids once we got word that they were almost finished. But, how do you get two cars to drive past each other on a narrow mountain path without him seeing me in my dress or me seeing him in his handsome suit? I had to duck down in the car as low as I could get, and his clever groomsmen put a handkerchief on his head to block his view. Finally seeing him at the “altar” was completely worth all the sneaking around and the whole day felt like a fun game.

DIY Wedding | Fletcher + Katrina

..Oh goodness, where to start! I created the bow ties, pocket squares and clutches, along with painting some of the vases used for decoration (my mom did the rest). Together, Fletcher and I made the jam for favors, including berry picking! Our close friend, the wife of the officiant, did our table arrangements after getting to Gatlinburg. Fletcher’s godmother made the cakes for the wedding (and two cakes for the rehearsal dinner as well!). One of the bridesmaids did all of our wedding stationary. And EVERYONE pitched in and helped with dinner! The entire wedding was a community DIY project.

Overall, I loved all of our projects and that the day wasn’t just about us. Everyone had a stake in making it a success, just like our marriage. We felt like that’s what a wedding should be – the celebration of the individual communities that have supported you two throughout the years coming together to share in your love for each other. It was so wonderful to know that if I needed anything done, I had an entire household of people to call upon, whether they be my family members, my future in-laws or his best friends. All of our projects created such an atmosphere of overwhelming love and I wouldn’t change a thing.

DIY Wedding | Fletcher + Katrina

..My something old was my wedding band – it was Fletcher’s maternal grandmother’s and I am so honored to be wearing it now. I also wore my mother-in-law’s jewelry for the wedding – she let me borrow opal earrings she received from Fletcher’s paternal grandmother and an opal pendant from his maternal grandmother. The chain I used for the necklace was the one my mother-in-law bought for Fletcher’s father on their wedding day. For my “something blue,” I wore a baby blue crinoline and navy shoes. I didn’t really have anything specifically “new,” but I think my new husband counts!

DIY Wedding | Fletcher + Katrina

..The wedding is a ceremony for other people to witness and join in celebrating your marriage. So be mindful of your guests’ comfort and the process that they have to go through to help you have the perfect day. When planning, ask your bridesmaids for advice if you think that something might be too much to ask for – and then REALLY listen to what they have to say. Your wedding lasts a day, but your continuing relationship with your husband will not be built without the love and support of your family and friends.” – Katrina, the bride
