As a fashion stylist turned new mom, baby clothes are sorta my new frontier. Of course, I totally overbought them before Lady A was born. Little girl had a closet that could rival Blue Ivy, packed with a ton of ridiculous things she would never wear {Three-month sized Fendi tutu snagged at a sample sale, anyone?!} Her wardrobe was also lacking in all the things she really needed multiples of {i.e. lots of cute, comfy, cozy pieces that could withstand several washings and, ahem, blowouts}.
Of course, I learned this lesson quickly. It only takes about one week of New-Momdom to realize you were completely oblivious about babies before you had one, and that sometimes your mom actually does know best. So ever since these realizations, I’ve searched for adorable baby clothes that are smartly designed, cozy, versatile and {sorry, mom} chic… if babies can be chic. And I think they can.
Last week, I totally hit the jackpot. Munchkin just released the new mBaby collection , and they invited Little A and I to their launch party. To make things even more fun, my little chunky monkey was asked to “model” the line. She and I picked an adorable grey toile sweatshirt and legging from the collection, and she happily played, rolled and slept in her new threads while I schmoozed with other new moms. {Win for mom, win for baby – Way to go, Munchkin}!
So here’s the deal on their awesome line… The new mBaby collection is meant only for little ones under 12 months old. It has a hint of European flair {see Mom, “baby-chic!”}, and the pieces have innovative design details that make them perfect for every day wear. For example, their “onesters” and “sleepsters” have a double layer on the front, which is awesome because tiny babies spend so much time on their back that they need the extra layer of warmth on the front side… especially since SIDS guidelines scare the BEEJESUS out of you dressing your little one in anything more than one layer.
I had the chance to chat with the mBaby designers at the launch, and was blown away by the level of detail put into these baby clothes… The line combines great inspiration {think nautically themed vintage prints} with fresh, cheery stripes, liberty florals and heirloom-quality details that you’ll want to pass down to baby #2. One day. Maybe. If you decide to do this whole crazy thing over again, that is.
Check out the new mBaby line here and let me know what you think!
