The Guac is On!

The Guac is On!
Hi Friends!
The 6th Annual Guac Off was a great hit! I love this party and always try to change things up a bit each year. The guacamole competition was fierce and we were honored to have Chef Duff Goldman help with the selection of the winners. Our Amy did a fantastic job coordinating this event. She is definitely a "chip off the Guac Off!"

Annapolis Nanny Service | Naptown Nannies

Annapolis Nanny Service | Naptown Nannies

Creating your guest list is no easy task and one thing that certainly complicates matters is young children. Deciding whether or not to invite young children to a wedding can be stressful especially as your guests may struggle with finding a sitter. You may also stress about whether to include a flower girl and ring bearer due to their young age. Using a reputable nanny service can be the perfect solution to fixing your wedding planning woes and appeasing everyone.

Christine of the Annapolis based Naptown Nannies service helps to answer some questions about what the wedding nanny process is like.

Annapolis Nanny Service | Naptown Nannies

Safety.
First and foremost, you and your guests may stress about the reputability of a nanny service. Naptown Nannies uses an extremely thorough screening process for their nannies. Christine describes how the process entails an application, an interview, several recommendations, childcare experience, First Aid and CPR certification, and an extensive background check through several organizations. Naptown Nannies can be contacted for more information on the exact process and background checks. No matter what nanny service you use, these should be requirements you adhere to.

How common are nanny requests?
Naptown Nannies receives constant requests for nannies at weddings. 62% percent of weddings today include children in the bridal party as flowers girls or ring bearers. Christine also notes that particularly in the Annapolis area, many couples are having destination weddings and parents want to tour the area with their children. Nannies, “Allow families to spend a long weekend together and the parents can feel comfortable with an experienced nanny watching the children.” The requests range from watching children at the actual venue, to babysitting for guests at a hotel, to watching children at a relative’s home. They also receive requests for wide age ranges of children from newborns to elementary aged.

What services can nannies provide besides the standard babysitting?
Nannies are a great resource for helping children in the actual wedding party practice their roles. Christine recently saw nannies being used to help children practice at a rehearsal dinner. Naptown Nannies also provides a “Bag o Fun” which is a bag filled with Chesapeake Bay related children ‘s activities. It’s a great fun way to keep children happily entertained and feel part of the wedding whether at the venue itself or at home.

How do I let my guests know a nanny service is available?
Christine has seen many couples place the Naptown Nannies card right in the wedding invitation or save the date cards so they can make plans in advance. A phone number can also be included on invitations or in the envelopes of families with young children.

What are good resources for nanny services?
Besides reputable groups like Naptown Nannies, many hotels provide nanny services at the actual venue as well.

Herrington on the Bay Wedding | Laura’s Focus Photography

Today’s beautiful Herrington on the Bay Wedding by Laura’s Focus Photography and features a spectacular grey and yellow color palette! We’ll let Laura take it from here:

“For their big day, they chose a beautiful venue right on the Chesapeake Bay, Herrington on the Bay in Rose Haven, Maryland. This spot was right outside of D.C. but it looked like we traveled hundreds of miles to a tropical destination! We were all nervous the day of because of the weather forecast calling for a 90% chance of rain. Somehow, the sky cleared up and it was sunny for the entire afternoon and evening! The colors yellow and gray were chosen and looked great on everyone. After a short but extremely sweet ceremony, the dancing started. These guests really have some moves too and I loved all the expressions!”

Paper Doily Cupcake Wrapper DIY

Paper Doily Cupcake Wrappers are downright gorgeous! And with the rise in wedding cupcake trends, more and more couples are looking for ways to make their cupcakes stand out! The fantastic folks over at Kupcakes and Co created today’s delicious little confection and I can neither confirm nor deny that this cupcake was eatten seconds after I finished the project.

But can you really blame me? These cupcakes are the best!

Paper Doily Cupcake Wrapper DIY

One of the things I loved most about creating today’s DIY was how downright simple it was! Unlike many other DIY projects that are complicated and time consuming… I was sort of surprised by how quick and easy it was to do! And I love the idea of creating these doily cupcake wrappers for a bridal shower – when you have more time to setup the dessert table!

Step One: Cut the Center of the Doily out. Step Two: Place your cupcake in the hole. Step Three: Cut and Fasten your wrapper to the proper cupcake size, and done! It’s really that simple!

Trash the Dress Sessions | Post Wedding Do or Don’t?

You met the man of your dreams, then you found the perfect dress, and your wedding day will fly past in the blink of an eye. While traditionally the bride’s wedding gown is kept in perfect condition as a family heirloom, a trend has emerged for brides to give their gown one last wear in a Trash the Dress Session!

Wait… Did I just say TRASH the dress?

Trash the Dress Sessions | Post Wedding Do or Don’t? Trash the Dress at Sandy Point State Park | Carmen Wang Photography

That garment of elegant perfection that you spent hundreds or even thousands on? What could this crazed wedding blogger possibly be talking about? Could brides plan to ruin their gowns and actually hire someone to photograph them doing it?

Despite the my exaggerated enthusiasm, the short answer is – Yes! Trash the Dress sessions have been gaining popularity and attention for years and brides around the country have been breaking tradition to photograph their gowns in creative ways.

One of the greatest arguments in favor of Trash the Dress sessions come from the rarely followed custom of re-wearing your mother’s vintage wedding gown! Why let your gown go to waste in your closet for decades, when you could wear it one more time? And after the wedding day, there is less concern for keeping the gown spotless which allows couples to be even more daring with their portraits!

Trash the Dress Sessions | Post Wedding Do or Don’t? Trash the Dress Session | Rebekah Hoyt Photography

Rebekah Hoyt , a talented local photographer and recent bride, photographed an incredible Trash the Dress Session this summer, featured above! She explains, “As the photographer, I have never felt more free to take risks and be creative.  Nothing was off limits, and I was so fortunate to have a bride who was willing to try anything I suggested.  By far, this shoot was the most fun I have ever had and it shows because this is the shoot people remember the most!  I really hope more brides decide to do trash the dress shoots – they are a blast!”

In Annapolis and around the Chesapeake Area, many Trash the Dress sessions include running through the water, sitting on the sand, and actually jumping into the Bay with your gown. Other trash the dress sessions are more relaxed and tame, capturing the couple more casually – – sometimes without the true destruction or damage.

As a photographer – I love the idea… As a bride? I don’t think I could EVER go through with it. After finding my absolutely perfect gown, I couldn’t imagine trashing it!  No matter how much I love the photographic opportunity, it feels borderline sacrilegious to destroy your wedding dress! But regardless of my hesitations, there are brides out there that truly love the idea of doing a trash the dress session and more power to them!

Would you ever do a Trash the Dress session? Why or why not?

Late Summer Wedding Inspiration

We’re somewhere in between wishing summer would last a little longer and dreaming about crisp fall days so today’s wedding inspiration board brings a little summer and fall together. We’ve paired light succulents and light summer colors with woodsy accents, burlap and twine.

How are you spending this almost-last-week-of-summer weekend? Natalie is on vacation in Florida (lucky girl!) and I’m shooting an incredible USNA wedding. Any fun plans?

Reception Thank You Card in Sangria

Hey guys! Happy Friday! I'm already back in California for the weekend to attend the wedding of a close family friend, so I thought I would keep it simple today and share one of my more recent designs with you all. For this project, I had the pleasure of working with Beth, who was recently married just last weekend on August 18th.

About a month ago, she reached out to me asking for a recreation of a reception thank you card that I have pinned up in the Reception section of the Words on Paper inspiration section of APP. I encourage you to head over to Words on Paper and check it out, because you've probably seen this particular card before...it's a really great little note to leave for your guests at each placesetting at your reception. A nice extra touch, if you ask me :) Beth's wedding colors were sangria, olive green and tan, so we went with a sand colored cardstock with a pretty red sangria colored typography.

Chesapeake Bay Wedding | Shannon Moffit Photography

We absolutely loved the nautical details of today’s wedding by Shannon Moffit Photography ! Described by the bride as a “whimsical romance” theme – the elegant elements made us fall in love with her style and vision! There are so many beautiful aspects to this wedding day and we especially love her shoes, bouquet, and the gorgeous venue of the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club !

Congratulations to Katie & Scott on their beautiful wedding and marriage!

Words from the Bride: “The theme of our wedding was whimsical romance. It was held at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on a warm June day. I wore a dress by Tara Keely by Lazaro and carried a bouquet of beautiful ivory peonies with brunia and dusty miller. My something blue was our wedding date stitched into the inside hem of my dress. The grounds after the ceremony opened up for a fun game of corn toss, and the sunset created a beautiful backdrop while our friends and family enjoyed cocktails on the outdoor patios. Inside the ballroom, the space was glowing with ivory lanterns hung from the ceiling rafters. Everyone raved about the cake, and danced the night away to a fun mix of country love songs, current hits, and oldies.”
