Tuesday Shoesday | Miu Miu Resort 2012 Collection

We’re back with one of our favorite features on Merci New York… Tuesday Shoesday . Yes, it’s Tuesday. And as fashion stylists and bloggers, we know that one of the most fabulous parts of wedding wardrobe styling is picking a great pair of statement-making shoes. So every Tuesday Shoesday, we share our favorite wedding shoes de la semaine. {See past picks here }.
Tuesday Shoesday | Miu Miu Resort 2012 Collection This week we’re all about Miu Miu’s new Resort 2012 collection. It’s still not available to the masses {but you can totally pre-order any of these glittery puppies on Saks.com – and if you’re in NYC, our stealthy salesperson friend at the Fifth Avenue store says they’ll be on the shelves by this weekend – shh!}.
We’ve all seen glittery bridal shoes before, so why are these four sassy Miu Miu pairs any better? Well, for one, they’re less bling, less cutesy and less gaudy than the rest. To us, these glittery silhouettes are a bit more grown-up, playing homage to a certain Studio 54-era glamour and seventies sexiness. In a few words, they’re everything your mom wish she wore to her own wedding – instead of that crazy, floppy hat.
xx,

p.s. A bit of fashion history: Miu Miu, the avant-garde, modern, sensual, provocative yet sophisticated brand, was created in 1993 by Miuccia Prada. To visit the entire Miu Miu resort collection, click here .

Prim Southern Wedding in Yellow and Gray

Strange, but when I think about it, I think this is the first time that I've had the opportunity to feature such a sweet, prim and proper Southern wedding on my blog! Hosted one warm, sunny afternoon at the classic, All-American Castle Hill Resort in Oxford, Mississippi, Whitney and Spencer welcomed over 130 guests to their big day, decorated in yellow, gray and white. The Spring wedding was photographed by Adam of Dodson Studio , who did a beautiful job of capturing all of the special moments of the day, in addition to the lovely wedding details, including an especially bright and happy assortment of spring flowers, like daisies, tulips and snapdragons.

Besides the flowers and the venue, I really loved the look chosen for the Spencer and his groomsmen - an elegant light gray suit, offset with a crisp white dress shirt and matching white tie. If I hadn't gotten married on the beach, I definitely would have gone with the look for my own wedding! The bridesmaids wore strapless yellow dresses by Anne Elyse from Bella Bridesmaid , with a simple, thin gray ribbon sash adorned with a matching yellow flower around their waists.

After spending the day getting ready and taking photographs together, the bridal party walked down the grassy aisle to "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles (which was actually mine and Dale's aisle exit song, too!). Whitney soon followed arm-in-arm with her father, and met Spencer at the end of the aisle, which was decorated with a garden arbor flanked by tall wrought iron candlelabras. After the ceremony, Spencer and Whitney snuck inside for some time alone while their guests transitioned to the reception. Described as one of her favorite memories from the day, Whitney fondly remembers how "...We got to have a glass of champagne, smile, breath and enjoy each other before talking with guests the rest of the night. It was our moment together, alone for the entire evening to just focus on each other."

The evening reception began with the bride and groom's first dance to "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton, outside on a big black and white checkered dance floor, surrounded by white circular tables. Soon after, guests enjoyed a dinner buffet of macaroni and cheese, roasted peppers, spinach and bacon dip, roasted red pepper hummus, crudites, pork tenderloin sandwiches and shrimp salsa. YUM! Whitney and Spencer each had their own wedding cakes, too! The bride's cake was a beautiful white four-tier Neopolitan flavored cake decorated with a few gray polka dots and small bunches of yellow roses, and the groom's cake was designed after a super cool BBQ charcoal grill, consisting of white pound cake and lemon buttercream.

A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations

A very warm welcome back to Merci New York’s destination wedding contributor, Christina Matteucci, the executive director of david beahm destinations . If you have been following Christina’s posts on Merci New York, you already know that she weighs in monthly with awe-inspiring reports from some of most beautiful places to wed around the world. If you haven’t, you’ve missed quite a lot!
In the last few months, Christina has brought Merci New York readers to
david beahm destinations approved enclaves in Tulum , Mexico, Mykonos , Greece, Napa Valley, California, and Williamsburg , Virginia. Today, she shares her and David’s visit to the ever-luxurious Lake Como, Italy. Take it away, Christina!
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Much like a delicious Chianti from a rich terroir, romance is harvested on the grounds at CastaDiva – and that’s just one of the reasons that David and I had to include this property in the david beahm destinations . It is quite simply a Cinderella fairytale come to life…
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Located in the town of Blevio on the Southern end of Lake Como, the main building, Roccabruna, was the one-time home of famed soprano Giuditta Pasta, the well-known muse of composer Vincenzo Bellini. {Rumor has it that Bellini first heard Giuditta’s dulcet tones from across the lake, leapt in his boat, and feverishly rowed over to claim her as inspiration for the opera that would become “Norma”}.

A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations {Giuditta Pasta}

Roccabruna was refurbished by Signora Pasta in the late 1820’s with elements that reminded our Diva of her beloved La Scala, where she first achieved luminous fame and high acclaim. Once enveloped within Roccabruna’s marble halls, you might be inclined to feel like a bit of a diva yourself.
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Immediately clear to any guest, CastaDiva embodies decadence. For the destination wedding couple who want their guests to feel like pampered celebrities, this is the ultimate choice. {Of course it helps that George Clooney’s villa is a stone’s throw away and that Tyra Banks is known to frequent CastaDiva’s luxurious spa}. But the perks of this property surpass celebrity sightings.
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations These days, the CastaDiva experience extends beyond the original villa. The expansive compound offers an accommodation solution for every wedding group: Smaller scale villas perfect for couples, larger villas suitable for big families, and hotel style accommodations for major groups. Each room is sumptuously appointed with lavish furnishings, opulent linens and comforts for every need. I’ve experienced many a hotel amenity, but the bedside menu of sleeping options {from hypo-allergenic bolsters to goose-down comforters} had me melting into my dreams within minutes. And let’s face it, a relaxed state of mind is much needed when planning your wedding at home or abroad.
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations So in the spirit of reveries {which are clearly the stuff david beahm weddings are made of}, dream with me for a moment if you will… You arrive at your wedding via vintage boat, gliding along the shores of Lake Como. Your guests eagerly await your arrival on the CastaDiva pool deck that gently nods and bobs atop the waters of the Lake – which, in your case, has been easily converted into a floating platform for a picturesque ceremony. After saying “I do,” you and your guests sip Prosecco and stroll through the gilded bar, stone staircases, and manicured grounds during cocktails.
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Highlighted by the finest Italian specialties, dinner is served in the beautiful, all-window enclosed L‘Orangerie restaurant, which allows the lights of the Lake and the stars above to heighten the exquisite table settings and fragrant flowers. As your guests celebrate into the evening, your dream is completed as the one-time ceremonial platform becomes a show of lights, music, and dancing fountains – a visual spectacle that will keep your guests talking for years to come…
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Now, we think that’s one fabulous fairytale and reality rolled all into one! Signora Pasta would trill with pride. {To learn more about CastaDiva, visit david beahm destinations }.
A Fairytale Destination Wedding at CastaDiva, Lake Como, Italy | David Beahm Destinations Editor’s Note: david beahm destinations is a by-invitation resource of amazing destination wedding, honeymoon and celebration locales, all expertly curated by the renowned David Beahm team . Merci New York readers can gain instant access to all of the properties mentioned in Christina’s articles, by entering code “Merci2011″ on the log-in page. Pretty fabulous, no?

Be Square! Pocket Squares are back!

Be Square! Pocket Squares are back! My fiance decided that this is the look he wants for his guys. I'm loving the pocket squares. They are a touch vintage and a whole lot of fun. Here are some great pocket square looks that I found.

So sweet the black polka dot bow tie and the black pocket square.

Love the solid orange pocket square and how it picks up the orange stripe in the tie. Love the little guy's mini orange vest and bow tie too.

Love this look! You don't even miss the boutonniere.

We are gonna go no boutonniere with a pocket square. It will be pair well with the flower bouquet alternatives the bridesmaid's vintage silver clutches.

Are you feeling square?

I love the women wedding dress designers AMSALE , CLAIRE PETTIBONE and LELA ROSE .

Amsale did a take on modern classics with her collection. I loved the classic fabrics and necklines reinterpreted in such a fresh and glamorous way! I have to admit that one of my guilty pleasures is watching the show “Amsale Girls” I can’t wait to see these new gowns on the show.

Claire Pettibone’s collection was a continuation of what she does best – romantic and feminine gowns that look personal and individual. I love driving by the windows of her Robertson Blvd boutique, where you will discover her whimsical designs and the sweetest woman in the world.

Lela Rose has been making a name for herself in bridal for the past few years. I love her cocktail dresses in her RTW line and am waiting for one of my brides to wear her bridal line on her big day!

The Fall collections have been wonderful. All the designers presented what they do best, now that the shows are over, cant wait to see these designs in person at the trunks shows.See you gowns soon!

Enjoy,

Picturesque San Francisco Engagement Shoot

Today, I have the pleasure of featuring what is, in my opinion, the quintessential engagement shoot by JC Page Photography , made complete with a cuddly (not to mention great looking) couple in love, some breathtaking San Francisco views and a romantic sunset. If you're anything like me though, one of the first things you'll notice (and love) about this shoot is the bride-to-be, Fre's amazing hot pink dress! So cute!

5 ways to rock wedding rain boots!

5 ways to rock wedding rain boots. Rain or shine I think everyone needs wedding pictures with rainboots. This is definitely something I want to do. My plan is to let the bridesmaids wear their own wellies and tie everything in with clear wedding umbrellas.

1. Go with color. Choose rainboots that are big bold and beautiful! They'll add a fun pop of color to your wedding pictures. How fun would these be for your something blue ?

Consider giving your bridesmaids rain boots for their gift. How fun would that be? 5 ways to rock wedding rain boots!  bridesmaid rainboots by copper carras3. Rainbow colors! The multi colored Hunter rainboots are just amazing. Same Hunter goodness in different colors.

I love using milk glass, I have found some vintage items that have pearl inspired designs! Also, I included pens covered in pearls that can be used for a sign in book… wouldn’t they be great at a bridal shower as well?!

Other favorites include the recent Valentino shoe collection which is covered in pearls.

The best way to wear the trend is in the over-sized necklace and vintage inspired earrings – they are so chic you can wear them again after your day!

Enjoy,

Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection

Our first stop on the Bridal Market circuit last week was the Romona Keveza show, which was presented in two parts: The Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear collection, and the Fall 2012 Couture Bridal Collection… Our Merci New York photographers not only captured the beauty of both lines, but the fabulous buzz behind the scenes. Here’s a peek of some of the evening wear looks being prepared for the runway…
Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection If you saw our tweets from Market, you would have heard me waxing poetic about this beautiful silk organza Tiffany blue dress. Yes, it’s part of the evening collection, but wouldn’t it be beyond fabulous for a fashion forward {and vintage-inspired} bride?
Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Here, our photographers captured the preparation of this look, from the typical “hurry up and wait” behind the scenes, to hair and makeup, and the final once-over before our Tiffany blue model hit the runway. Le sigh. It remains one of my favorites from all of bridal market.
Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Here are a few of our favorites from the first part of the presentation, The Spring 2012 Romona Keveza Lux Evening Wear Collection, which began with this fun and flirty pearl white trapeze cocktail dress made of Chantilly lace and silk organza flowers.
Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Behind the Scenes at Romona Keveza | Part 1: Spring 2012 Lux Evening Wear Collection Both the Romona Keveza evening wear and bridal collections were inspired by 60s style icon, Brigitte Bardot. From her allure as the ingenue to the “sex kitten” images that made her a sensation, Bardot had that rare combination which made her irresistible to every man.
In keeping with the feel of Paris in the 1960s, the collection featured a soft palette comprised of colors such as ivory, blush, lavender and our favorite, fresh Tiffany blue. These blended with the sensuality of a midnight black, the dramatic contrast of white with black, and the play of light on red to create a look that was sexy, sensual and playful.
The soft floating textures of the collection highlighted Couture ruffles, light and airy feather detailing, delicately beaded embroidered flowers, Point d’Espirit and French organza embroidered in ribbon rosettes… Tres chic!
Be sure to stay tuned for our part 2 recap on Romona Keveza’s Fall 2012 Bridal collection, coming soon!
