With the popularity of adventure oriented and general travel on the rise, outdoor companies are creating versatile luggage to cater to the highly mobile set. For Fall 2013, Both Kelty and Eagle Creek will release a set of luggage that can be expanded or even turned into more than one piece, ensuring you can get all those treasures home that you accumulated on your travels.
The impressive Eagle Creek Morphus literally morphs from one upright, polycarbonate back shell roller bag into two full size bags. Bought too much on your travels or heading out on a gear intensive trip? Simply zip off the front gear bag from the back shell to convert it into a full size backpack or shoulder bag. The Bi-Tech top shell hidden underneath this gear bag can then be pulled out to create a second, full size roller duffel bag.
Lightweight and durable, each bag is fully functional with dedicated electronics features, built in security, lockable self repairing zippers, and gear organizers. The Eagle Creek Morphus comes in two sizes: the Morphus 22 ($395) features a 48L gear bag and 47L wheeled bag, while the Morphus 30 ($470) features a large 94L gear bag and 91L wheeled bag.
The foundation of Kelty's new travel oriented Ascender Series is an external expanding wheeled chassis with removable expanding bags and modular functionality. The Ascender 22 ($349) is a carry-on sized roller bag that expands from 40L up to 55L and even 70L, increasing your packing volume by up to 75%.
The Ascender 22 bag can be swapped out of the chassis to be replaced with either the water-resistant Ascender WR Duffel (65L) or the large Ascender Trunk (80L), enabling you to customize your luggage for various lengths of travel or gear intensive situations.
The Ascender 22, Ascender WR Duffel ($149), and Ascender Trunk ($199) all come with backpack straps, allowing you to carry these pieces like a pack, with or without the frame. All three bags feature handy organization options like a padded tablet pocket in the Ascender 22, Velcro dividers with separate gear compartment and gear racking options in the Ascender Trunk, and a coated exterior with water resistant interior compartment in the Ascender WR Duffel.
Look for these modular and versatile luggage pieces to hit the market around September 2013, just in time for all your fall and winter adventure travel plans.
