After only starting to ship their new ELEMNT GPS cycling computer a few weeks ago, Wahoo Fitness just released a firmware update that packs in even more features–namely support for electronic drivetrain control and oxygen sensors.
Those of you who run electronic drivetrains, including SRAM E-Tap and Shimano’s Di2, can now view real-time gearing information and battery status directly on the ELEMNT. You have the ability to choose between both visual and numerical indications of what front and rear gears you are currently riding. Shimano users will also be able to use the Di2 hood buttons to change between display pages on the ELEMNT, stop and begin new laps as well as zoom in and out of data fields—all without having to take your hands of the handlebars.
For anyone who is playing around with oxygen sensors like BSXInsight and Moxy Monitor, the ELEMNT can now display current, average, minimum and maximum values for the SmO2 and tHb metrics provided by these sensors in real-time, making them a bit more useful during your ride.
For those of you who already own an ELEMNT, the firmware update will be pushed out to your GPS cycling computer via WiFi.
Built to attack Garmin’s dominance in the GPS cycling computer market, the ELEMNT packs ANT+, Bluetooth Smart, and WiFi connectivity inside the device to enable you to view key ride metrics, navigate a route, track fellow riders’ locations in real-time (cool!) as well as receive en-route call, text and email notifications—all on the large-format, high-contrast display. Programmable LED QuickLook Indicators provide a quick way to see if you’re on pace with important performance metrics like speed, cadence and power, while the 16 USB rechargeable battery will run for up to 16 hours before needing to be recharged.
I just started using a KICKR for power training so am interested in how the ELEMNT can be used to follow a GPS file to change resistance automatically in order to simulate elevation grade. Col du Tourmalet anyone?
The Wahoo Fitness ELEMNT GPS cycling computer retails for $329.99 and is available now from the company website.
