Sometimes you need some straight-up untz untz untz to get you by. David Herrero’s “It’s Your Time” serves it up by the earful with a twist. On the title track from his double single, steady hi-hats float above galloping tech-house beats as Doppler diva vocal samples swirl about interlacing layers of syncopation like disco banshees.
The EP drops on the Larry Cadge’s Smiley Fingers label October 28, featuring a contrasting, cut-up spoken-word jam, “Think for Yourself,” on the flipside. Like the low-key black-line visual aesthetic, Smiley Fingers releases are sonically irreverent and indelible. Herrero, the irrepressible Spaniard, claims he still gets excited every time he goes into the studio. That’s evident on this EP, which feels right at home on Cadge’s roster.
