Dancefloor titan Carl Cox was known as a DJ who could pull off spectacular turntable feats since his early days as a hardcore rave DJ throughout the 80s, though he’s also been a willing adapter of technology, and hence hasn’t lugged a record box around for quite a long time. However, his final performance at Space Ibiza next week won’t be your normal Tuesday night.
"I wanted to take things back and pay homage to all those years at Space spinning records,” Cox told Resident Advisor of the grand finale of his Music Is Revolution residency next Tuesday.
Cox will be performing all night long in the club’s Discoteca mainroom, with his set kicking off at 8PM and continuing well into the next day no doubt. He’ll be playing a mixture of digital files via his typical Traktor setup, as well as a selection from his reported collection of over 150,000 records that he’s warehoused in chronological order.
"At the start of my residency, of course I only played vinyl but now everything is digital and has been for some years," Cox told Resident Advisor. “I want to show respect to those older tunes, dig out some of my old vinyl and play them alongside new tunes… I thought it was a fitting way to say goodbye. This music has been my life and I want to share it one last time at Space."
The finale is drawing near, and it promises to be one hell of a marathon. Tune in next Tuesday to watch the simulcast at BE-AT.TV .
