Build a desk that turns into a double bed for $350

And help an entrepreneur at the same time. Graham Phakos has developed a great piece of multifunctional furniture. The UrbanDesk, as it is called, is a bed frame with an attached desk. The bed pivots against the wall and in doing so raises the desk surface up from the floor.  You don’t even have to empty your desk, before transforming it to a bed. All the clutter gets hidden under the bedframe. And there’s even a lot of storage.

Originally Graham Phakos made the UrbanDesk for his own apartment, but after a lot of positive feedback from friends and family, he felt his idea could serve a greater need. Currently he doesn’t have the ability to fund any further development and refinement of this product, so he decided to turn to the fundraisingsite Kickstarter.

You can get your hands on the UrbanDesk Construction Plans, if you pledge $50 or more. Plans include a complete list of parts, tools needed, and printed step by step instructions for constructing your own UrbanDesk from wood. Material cost is approximately $300. That means you can get your own UrbanDesk for only $350 and some elbow grease. If you pledge $350 or more, you get a kit, that includes the steel lift mechanism components, springs, locking mechanism, and construction plans of the wood. Additional material cost is approximately $100.
