Cheers to DIY Friday and to giving alcoholic gifts to your friends! Since you guys (and the rest of the internet) went so crazy over my mason jar cocktail gifts , I was inspired to create another similar project. But this time with a little more work involved… so today I bring you the Mason Jar Bloody Mary Gift and spice recipe. Take ordinary vegetable juice + vodka and turn it into something amazing with the spice mix recipe I created, that’s what really makes this gift a gift. Just wait until you taste it, you won’t believe that it’s V8. These would make the perfect bridal party gifts, because you know they are going to need a bloody the day after your wedding – or maybe awesome bachelor and bachelorette party gifts! You might even want to gift one to your photographer and wedding planner. The hardest part about giving mason jar gifts is finding the right items that fit, so I’ve done all that work for you – just make sure to read my notes about the items included. You read on while I go refill my glass, because these are just too yummy!
I designed “we” tags and “I” tags… so there’s a fit for everyone giving this gift. Get your free tag downloads at the end of the post!

Make The Spice Mix
First things first, you’ve got to make the spice mix. Mix all the spices you see here together, that’s all there is to it. If you are a true bloody mary lover, you would most likely never use V8 in your cocktail – until now. This recipe that I created brings the perfect full-bodied flavor and spice to that regular pantry staple and allows you to have a killer beverage in no time. Make up a large batch, keep in the cupboard with a few cans of V8 and you’re good to go. **If you do have time to let the mix marinate in the juice for like an hour – WOW. The key ingredients are Celery Salt and Worcestershire Powder (sauce powder or just powder, same thing) – they make this mix rock.
The recipe below makes 9, 3 teaspoon servings.
For the mason jar gifts, fill each tiny zip lock baggie with 3 teaspoons of Bloody Spice. It fits perfectly in these bags and is the correct amount to mix with 5.5 ounces of V8. You don’t have to use all the mix, it’s all about taste so it’s up to you and the drinker of the gift. I thought it was perfect with all the spice mix and no tabasco, but the hubby preferred his with all the spice mix and all the tabasco.
Download my free tag designs below, print them onto white 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock, and cut each one out. There are two tags for each jar, 4 sets on a sheet. Snip the corners and punch a hole in the tags.
Take the bloody spice tags, fold them in half and staple over the top of the zip lock baggies. I designed them so that you staple on top of the design, right where the top of the bag is — so no holes in your mix!
Now Fill Your Gift Jars!
These 30 ounce mason jar mugs have steel lids and come with the red striped straw; they have no handle. They are made by Home Essentials and are available on Amazon and at some of these stores; BevMo!, Sears, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Kmart – but it’s hit or miss on this exact jar. To save yourself time, call ahead.
Everything that you see here fits perfectly in this jar, it’s tight but it all fits. If you don’t buy these exact 30oz jars, please take the ones you buy with you when you are shopping for the rest of the supplies. If you don’t like Smirnoff, take your jar and V8 with you when choosing another Vodka, as those bottles might not fit. As for the V8, you can use any 5.5oz V8 that you’d like; the original, low sodium, spicy – they all work!
If you can’t stand V8 and don’t want to make the spice mix, you can always use Mr & Mrs T Bloody Mary 5.5 ounce cans.

This spice mix doesn’t just work for gifts, it’s terrific for home use and large batches. Let’s say you are hosting a bridal shower or “morning after wedding brunch”, you can make a large batch to serve everyone in a snap (and for a good price since it’s just V8). For a large batch use: 1 tablespoon of mix per 8 ounces of juice, let it marinate for at least an hour and provide the Tabasco on the side. The vodka amount is your call. Serving it in this giant mason jar drink dispenser would be adorable!
