Not only has Desert Hearts been showing us how it’s done with their no-off-button music festivals born to disperse the “house, techno and love” ethos, but the SoCal crew have made it a point to expand their dust-sheathed, good-vibed vision into a full-fledged brand. Already reaching the 15th release of their eponymous imprint, DH Records has added another invariably impressive name to join the cause. Mr Jefferson comes bearing four of the buffest bits we’ve heard in a hot minute, all wrangled together on the forthcoming Ghetto Funk EP.
On the titular cut, the Spanish tech house conquistador cuts into some serious peak-time vibes. Propped up against reverent vocal samples, the tune has energy for days with a sashaying rhythmic structure that borrows its character from slithering lines and sporadic bleeps for good measure. It’s the type of joint you light up to get the crowd right where you want them.
“We’ve been following and playing tracks by Mr Jefferson for the last couple of years, and it’s been awesome seeing his growth as an artist,” says DH cofounder Mikey Lion. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome his Spanish tech house sound to the label. Simply put, this EP is a beast!”
In their usual fashion, this one is up for grabs at no cost (other than doing the ToneDen dance), so get on it. Other than that, expect “Ghetto Funk” to get rinsed when the DH crew treks across North America on the Endless Summer Tour run of dates.
Available July 5 via Desert Hearts Records.
