For much of the fall, I spent more time on the road than at home. As my travels included both urban activities and outdoor pursuits, I needed to pack items that were multi-functional and easy to clean. These ten pieces served me well, whether exploring the streets of Tokyo or hiking the trails of Yosemite.
Gregory Compass 30 ($99) : This pack serves double duty as a carry-on or commuter, then a day hiking pack at your destination. A duffel-style opening gives you access to all the contents without the need to dig through layers of gear. Another external-access, padded compartment holds an 18” laptop with a separate tablet sleeve. A top accessory pocket with key clip and internal zippered mesh security pocket are great for storing your wallet, passport, phone, and other quick access essentials.
Columbia Suburbanizer Jacket: This jacket is technically a Spring ’15 piece but one to keep on your radar. I wore this rain jacket all summer and fall—you can crumple it up in your suitcase, then with a couple of swipes of your hand, the wrinkles magically disappear. You can’t ask for much more from a travel jacket.
Millet Black Shadow Hoodie: There is nothing better than throwing on a cozy hoody during a long flight to help keep you warm or to wear around your hotel room before bed. Simply pop up the hood when you want to get some sleep on the plane.
KEEN Reisen Boot ($140) : These cute, waterproof boots that go with everything can comfortably walk for miles around a city then bang out the equivalent on a trail. I have hiked in these boots when traveling and I didn’t want to bring an extra pair of shoes.
Olloclip ($59.99) : Improve your travel Instagram shots with the 4 different lenses of the Olloclip—fisheye, wide angle, and two levels (10x and 15x) of macro. The lens clips on and off your iPhone in a matter of seconds and is super easy to use. You can pre-order the iPhone 6 version now for $79.99.
Royal Robbins Essential Tencel Cowl Neck ($68) : This great looking top not only offers UPF 50+ sun protection for when you are out exploring all day, but dries quickly when you need to give it a quick hotel room wash.
Royal Robbins Discovery Pencil Pants ($75) : Made from a stretch nylon fabric (meaning they never get dumpy), these wrinkle resistant pants not only look great around town, but as they are moisture-wicking and offer UPF 50+ sun protection, they can also serve double duty on the trail.
Mountain Khakis Pika Vest ($149.95) : Fall weather means you may want an extra layer or two but perhaps not a full insulated jacket. This fur fleece lined vest not only looks great, but keeps your core warm as well.
Bronwen Jewelry : You can spruce up any outfit with a little jewelry. The great thing about Bronwen Jewelry is that it is purpose built for active women, so you don’t have to take it off when you are cycling, hiking, or climbing on your travels.
Native Highline Sunglasses ($129) : No one wants to bring multiple different sunglasses on a trip, so you need a pair that look great for the city but also perform during your active outdoor pursuits. Polarized lenses reduce 99% of visible glare from water, snow, sand, and pavement, while blocking 100% of harmful UVA and UVB light. Nose pads and temple tips keeps your shades in place during strenuous activities.
