Situated since the early ‘90s at an experimental junction between hip-hop and cutting-edge electronica, DJ Shadow changed the world with his 1996 debut album, Endtroducing. Twenty years later, he’s returning to his seminal album to curate a remixed rerelease.
Spin magazine reports that Shadow is taking the lead with reimagining his groundbreaking album, with Hudson Mohawke mentioned as one of the remixers on board for the project.
“This year is the twentieth anniversary of Endtroducing... so curating this remix album, I wanted to provide another layer of perspective on the record and invite my current favorites and a few favorites from other eras to do remixes,” said Shadow.
The lasting impact of Endtroducing can’t be overstated, credited by Guinness World Records as the first album to be composed entirely from samples, which Shadow sourced by crate-digging in record shops, producing over two years with heavy use of the Akai MPC60 sampler.
