Those familiar with the work of Mark Fanciulli can attest to the challenge of trying to place him neatly in either the house or techno categories. Between 2 Points, the label and radio show combo he launched a couple of months ago, is a reference to the line the Brit has so gracefully straddled throughout his entire catalog, and it will be used to expose a more experimental side than Fanciulli has shown us in the past.
“Tell Me” takes the label into its second release, a cavorting cut with deep nods to the material that made Detroit the underground haven it is. London-based singer Emmy Willow has been recruited for an arresting vocal contribution that has been toned down for the purposes of the dub version we’re premiering today. Ebullient, ricocheting riffs and gliding melodies slice through the space, packing an extra layer of flair on top of what’s felt on the original. It plays out like a classic belter living in a modern context.
“I’m really happy to present the dub mix of my next release on Between 2 Points,” Fanciulli tells Insomniac. “Although it also features the vocals from the talented Emmy Willow (but less so than the original), this version has a fast and more pounding pace in comparison, and is therefore suited to any time of a DJ set.”
Available September 9 via Between 2 Points.
