The Story of Glamping
Glamping is, without a doubt, one of the greatest compromises out there. It offers everything desired by those who love the outdoors but don’t want to sacrifice the comfort of home. It provides adventure and luxury at the same time.
The Concept of Glamping
Glamping is a mixture of the words “glamorous” and “camping.” Some other ways to describe it are glorious camping, boutique camping, or luxury camping. Whichever words you choose to describe it, glamping is the simple act of spending the night relaxing in nature while maintaining all the pleasures and comforts of home.
When you go glamping, there is some of the traditional camping good stuff that you get to keep. You have access to fresh air and the great outdoors. You can have delicious smores with stories around the campfire. You get to enjoy the sound of rain on your tent while the rest of the flora and fauna sings a lullaby. You can spend time with family and friends, or treat it as a romantic getaway.
You also get to avoid some of the not-so-pleasant things like sleeping on the lumpy ground, a half-blown-up air mattress, or sleeping bags in general. You also work around the uncomfortable weather changes that may make you shiver or sweat, and even being wet because of the not-so-waterproof tent when it rains.
On the other hand, “glampsites” usually include some sort of kitchen, real beds, rugs, wood floors, nice bedding, and décor, as well as washrooms, electricity, lights, heat and A/C, plus a beautiful view.
The Background of Glamping
It is still a little uncertain where is all began. One version would be the Turkish Ottomans, who would set up extravagant tent stations as a mobile palace for the sultan. These luxurious tents were complete with silk fabrics, expensive rugs, and furnishings. The term glamping was not employed yet, but the concept was being formed.
Then, we would need to fast forward to the early 1900s in Africa, where the wealthy American and European explorers would demand extravagances when going on safari, wishing to have a wild adventure outdoors without renouncing the comforts they were used to back home. These canvas safari tents commonly included elegant deluxe bedding, Persian rugs, and a personal chef to prepare nice meals.
So you see, the needs haven’t changed much. There is still a lot of people that want that very same thing: a wild adventure with luxurious comfort. The Dever Tent Company started in 1890, which makes us one of a few companies that have been around for over 100 years. This has given us not only a lot of experience, but the best insight to understand the needs and expectations of our customers, allowing us to provide the best tents on the market .
