Americana Style Guide | Dress for the Wedding

Happy Fourth of July, Bayside readers! It’s the time of year when many of us feel extra patriotic and start bringing out the red, white and blue, so I decided to echo that festivity with this month’s style feature. The wonderful thing about a red, white, and blue color scheme is that it is quintessentially nautical, too. Today, we’ll start things off the red, white and blue bride!

Umbriel Gown Style #11420 Wtoo Fall 2013 | Navy Stud Earrings by Kate Spade | Navy and Gold Bahari Stella & Dot Necklace | Ann Taylor Navy Jackie Bow Sandals | Bouquet by Lewis Miller Design Photo by Yasu +Junko via Brides.com

This Wtoo gown, with its subtle organza striping, is perfect for a nautical or 4th of July themed wedding ! I also gave this bride a “something blue” with navy accessories, and, if she carries a beautiful red bouquet like this one, it will give her the pop of red color to make this festive bridal look complete.

Jenny Yoo “Keira” Nabi Dress in Navy and Ivory Dot | Furbish Studio Starfish Earrings | A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz Beaded Starfish Charm Bracelet | Nina “Crista” Red †Satin Heels | Juicy Couture †Beaded Disco Clutch

This blue and white polka dot dress is a favorite of mine; and it’s perfect for this theme because the dots remind me of the stars on our dear flag. This darling dress is from the Jenny Yoo Nabi Collection and is constructed so that one dress gives your bridesmaids the option of multiple looks. The tying positions include: strapless, one shoulder, halter, ruffled sleeves, or criss-cross halter styles; take a look all 17 possibilities !

To take the starry and nautical theme even further, I found some pretty starfish earrings and a starfish and pearl bracelet. To add a few stripes, you could give your bridesmaids this sparkly striped clutch as a gift, and add a dash of red with some bright red pumps.

Brooks Brothers Regent Blue Linen Striped Suit | Lanvin Red and Blue Bow Tie | Ink Dot Pocket Square J.Crew | Kenton Suede Wingtops by J.Crew | Fabric knot J.Crew cuff links

Okay, I know a light blue striped linen suit isn’t for everyone, but in the spirit of the theme, I thought I’d share this old-school-made-modern look. If your groom can embrace this dandy style, he should go all out with a blue and red striped tie, a jaunty red pocket square, and blue suede shoes for flourish!

Lastly, we had a reader request from a bride who had been searching for the perfect nautical statement necklace to wear on her wedding day. She wanted a dazzler that would pick up the nautical theme, but was not your average small anchor or starfish pendant.

I shared some nautical necklace ideas in this earlier Bayside Bride post , but I also I found these bold nautical necklaces. Aren’t they cute? The nautical flag necklace actually spells out “I love you” ! Another idea is to find a nautical brooch you like, and have a jeweler affix it to a 3-row pearl necklace to make it a traditionally bridal yet nautical look.

I hope you thought this red, white and blue theme had some sparkle to it! Wishing you happy summer celebrations, Bayside Brides!
