Most of us cannot fathom what 50 years feels like, let alone 50 married years… but Lloyd and Louise can! They have been married 51 years and have built a lasting, beautiful marriage together along with raising a wonderful family! Spending half of a century in love is a wonderful statement about the gift of married life. Lloyd and Louise have been blessed with 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
I celebrated with them during their anniversary reception in which they renewed their vows in the presence of family and friends. The ingenuity and creativity of this couple shined through the celebration. What a grand occasion it was to witness the affection, love and respect effortlessly displayed by this couple!
Lloyd’s involvement in the planning was quite significant and was an integral part of the ceremony. He is an outstanding example of what it means for the “groom”, albeit the second time around, to be involved in the “wedding” process!
First and foremost, Lloyd chose to write his own vows for the ceremony. While many couples often stick to the tried and true standard vows, Lloyd felt that honoring his wife & her love would be best served by handcrafting his words. He also took on the responsibility to select his attire & the music, which allowed him to sing (to his guests delight) a tune or two at the end of the ceremony. In addition, Lloyd insisted on recognizing both the longest wed and the most newlywed couple with a special gift. And among other responsibilities, he worked alongside his wife to shape the guest list, sample food, and approve of his bride’s formalwear! All of this AFTER 50+ years of marriage!
What is the most significant change from your (Lloyd’s) wedding day involvement 50+ years ago to your recent involvement?
Lloyd: “I believe that times have changed so much. Back then it was the woman’s day, so the man just showed up and said “I do”. This go around, my sons and daughter encouraged my participation and even empowered me to own this momentous occasion”.
Louise: “The most significant change for me was the shear excitement of seeing my husband in action for the renewal celebration! He just kind of let it happen 50 years ago, no significant involvement at all…this time, though; he embraced the whole idea and talked about it non-stop! This has been one of the most memorable events in our lives!”
I am flattered, fortunate and proud to share that this very special couple that celebrated 52 years on July 8th, belong to me! They are my parents!
