Alternative Boutonnieres | For the Groom

Here it comes – your wedding day. There’s talk of frosting, trailing gowns, burlap runners, a vintage photobooth, paper or plastic straws? And of course, your wedding flowers. If you’re like most brides, you’ve been dreaming of those gorgeous blush peonies or brilliant bachelor’s buttons for your bouquet since the day he asked. And although it’s easy to imagine yourself dressed in white with a handful of bursting blooms, you may be having a harder time picturing what will be pinned to your groom’s suit. You might be wondering, what could that boutonniere be?

As a floral designer, I’m exposed to a lot of boutonnieres. The standard boutonniere is a single bloom with a filler flower and foliage accompanying. It often matches the style and color of the bride’s bouquet and is quite simple. While this makes a completely acceptable and traditional boutonniere, it’s not the only option. Tiny as it may be, a boutonniere is the perfect mini canvas for showcasing your groom’s unique taste and personality, so don’t be afraid to use it!
