The simple truth is that most of us are at our best between the hours of dusk and dawn. It’s within that sweet stretch of time that the rest of the world gets tuned out, and the only thing on our minds is the moment standing right in front of us. Will Atkinson channels both sunup and sundown, respectively, on his latest two-tracker, which arrives on the wildly liberating collective known as VII. Since the UK stalwart is one of seven at the helm of the label, it makes his debut here all the more meaningful.
“Dusk” fully epitomizes the feeling when the sun starts to hug the horizon, drawing on an airstream of flowing synths and warm textures to paint the mood. On the backside is “Till Dawn,” a true peak-time affair in both form and function, driven by acid-flecked riffs that fly over stretched-to-the-stars melody lines. Both pieces portray Atkinson in a different light, speaking to his eagerness to always keep dance music diversified. Streams for both tunes can be enjoyed below. We hope you don’t mind the voiceover too much on the lead cut—it’s a rip of Will premiering the tune on his newfound BBC Radio 1 residency, like the total boss that he is.
