For those of us who frequent multi-day camping festivals in particular, the festival toilet is an unavoidable yet often unsavory part of the experience. Visits are fraught with peril, and ravers will no doubt have their share of traumatic memories. However, there is a better way.
Numberphile is an internet collective supported by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) , who offer neat and useful mathematical solutions for everyday problems, and they’ve offered up a solution for the festival toilet conundrum.
“The problem is, you’ve got hundreds of these toilets,” says Dr. Ria Symonds of the University of Nottingham . “How do you know which toilet to stop on... so you don’t have to try them all. There must an optimum number we can look at.”
