VII Records Launches With Waio’s Sublime Tech Psytrance Take on “Smack”

Is this real life? It’s a question we asked ourselves as well when news first broke about this newly formed super-group artist collective by the name of VII. Judging by its star-studded cast—which comprises Astrix, Simon Patterson, Freedom Fighters, John Askew, Sean Tyas, Will Atkinson and Blazer (the number seven should make loads of sense now)—the trance scene has no idea what it’s in for. After just forming, they’ve already put out a monster tune most psy-freaks have been begging for during the last six months or so. Waio is the first to get his hands dirty for the imprint, taking the iconic Simon Patterson record “Smack” and beating it silly in his frenetic, blindsiding psy-tech ways. It’s the first in what’s looking to be a long line of genre-guiding releases. Normally, we’d be wary of there being too many cooks in the kitchen, but VII is clearly in the best hands possible.
