Game on Australia – the journey begins!

It was so good to finally hit the road today and officially start our road trip around Australia.

After years of dreaming, many months of planning, and weeks of solid preparation it came to a head over the weekend when we boxed up the last of our possessions and spent two days cleaning house and saying our last goodbyes – which never gets easier.

Now it’s just us, a ton of inspiration, and the open road.

Our shiny Nissan X-Trail looks the goods on the outside, she’s ready to put some miles on the clock, and on the inside we’ve got her filed to the brim.

Whilst we’ve done many a road trip over the years, nothing comes close to this duration – especially with the kids – and the first few weeks is going to be a real feel me out period of finding what works and what doesn’t.

What excess stuff can we get rid of from the car?

What routine works best with Kalyra’s 20 hours per week of distance education?

And finding our rhythm with the blog.

You can get tips from others, but at the end of the day everyone’s style is different and you need to figure this out through experiencing it yourself. So it’s game on!

Australia, we’re ready to see what you’ve got!

We’ve pin pointed our must sees on the map and now it’s time to join the dots.

Whilst the bulk of our previous travel experience in Oz has been north of Sydney, on this trip we have started by heading south and then we’ll basically go clockwise around the country, with a few zig zags in between.

How to follow our Australia adventure

At this stage we’re thinking we’ll publish 4-5 times per week on the blog, and those posts will consist of stories, destination pieces, travel tips and photo essays.

If you haven’t subscribed by email yet for updates you can do so here:

Besides the blog, we’ll be sharing live updates several times daily across our social channels like Facebook , instagram , and Google+ .

And of course all our best photos and posts will be pinned to our Pinterest boards .

What’s first?

We drove out of our street in Woy Woy on the Central Coast this morning with the feeling of excited anticipation. It’s frightening, yet at the same time thrilling, We don’t know what is going to happen for every tomorrow, but we know it will be full of surprises and awe inspiring moments.

10 minutes into the journey, Savannah started screaming to get out of her car seat and the horrors that come with road tripping with kids started. Kalyra came to the rescue with a few rounds of “Wheels on the Bus” and shortly after we found our groove.

I questioned what we were doing a little bit, until later that afternoon when we cycled along the foreshore at Wollongong. The kid’s faces were beaming and I felt a sense of calm and joy and the feeling that we made the right choice and everything would turn out perfect.

Tonight we are coming to you from the city of Wollongong (about an hour south of Sydney).  We’ll explore this region for two days then make our way slowly through southern NSW over the next four weeks.

So jump in our virtual suitcase, come along for the ride, and get informed and inspired to take your own Aussie trip.

We’ll explore beaches, the mountains, the outback, food and wine and bring you stories of the people we meet.

As always, we’d love to hear your tips on places to go and things to see and do.

Thanks for joining us, and please let us know how we can help YOU make your dreams come true?!
