Best Boutique Hotels in New York City

There’s no shortage of hotels in New York City. Whether you’re a regular traveler to New York or a first-timer, finding reasonably priced accommodations can be a challenge. But if location is more important to you than price, exploring New York with one of these five hotels as your base will be a breeze.

Best New York Boutique Hotels

Excelsior Hotel

The luxury four-star Excelsior Hotel graces the Upper West Side in Manhattan, one of New York City’s trendiest neighborhoods. If you want to be close to attractions like the American Museum of Natural History, Rose Center for Earth and Space, and Central Park, then book a stay here. It’s also one block away from the 81st Street Subway Station so getting around Manhattan will be easy. Concierge services can help you with theater tickets, sightseeing tours, and museum passes.

The Empire Hotel

Still on the Upper West Side, but just before you would cross over to Midtown Manhattan, you’ll find The Empire Hotel . A boutique hotel with 426 rooms in earthy tones, a lavish lobby and bar area, and appealing rooftop pool deck from which to gaze at the NYC skyline . You’ll be across from the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts and will even catch a view of it from your window. Be sure to stop at Ed’s Chowder House on the mezzanine level for a superb meal. Note that wi-fi is only free in the lobby.

Hudson New York

The Hudson New York near Columbus Circle is one of the trendiest hotels in New York and will suit the young hip crowd. Rooms, while tastefully decorated in bright citrine colors and dark wood paneling, are on the small side. But, as one does not visit New York to spend time in your room, this probably won’t be too much of a bother. There are several cool areas to relax in – Hudson Common (burger and beer joint), Private Park (an enchanting garden space), Sky Terrace (an outdoor rooftop oasis complete with hammocks), Library Bar (cosy old English drawing-room style with big fireplace), and Hudson Bar (a typical New York cocktail bar and lounge).

City Club Hotel

If Times Square is where you want to be, then the City Club Hotel is the place for you. Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and Bryant Park are all within a one-mile radius. City Club Hotel was originally a political club in the early 1900s and housed sleeping quarters for members and their butlers. This history carries through in the distinctly masculine decor in chocolate-brown, beige and pale blue, retaining the feel of a traditional gentlemen’s club. With only 65 rooms, it’s a well-appointed intimate boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

Hotel Pennsylvania

Stay at Hotel Pennsylvannia for its location, not its luxury (or lack thereof). Built in 1919, the hotel is showing its age and is not the swankiest of hotels in New York, but it is near Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, Macy’s, and across from Penn Station. The Theater District, Garment District, and Chrysler Building are also nearby. Inquire about the many packages available, like the Summer Super Saver, Shopper’s Special Package, and LGBT Pride Package.
