If I should try to describe the style of the spectacular furniture from the Portuguese design studio Boca do Lobo , I would probably go with “baroque on acid.” Since 2005 the designers at “The mouth of the wolf” have created furniture that is as quirky as it is extravagant.
The “Soho” Coffee Table is composed by a collection of wood drawers finished in mirror and black glass with etched detailing, gold leaf, diamond matched rosewood veneer, high gloss blue or pink lacquer, and white lacquer with hand carved relief patterning. The drawers are accented with handmade brass pulls, some of which are plated in chrome, and cut glass knobs.
“Piccadilly.” Cabinet inspired by the famous Piccadilly Circus, in London, that exhibits the same dichotomy between modernity and tradition as this piece of furniture. Limited edition.
“Skyscraper” floor lamps have a delicately hand carved mahogany base with a fringe lamp’s shade, and is finished in a white lacquer with a gradual color transition to yellow.
“Time goes by” is a hand carved mahogany framed digital clock with a cut stainless steel pendulum is encased in a smoked glass box supported by an ornate hand carved mahogany base covered in silver leaf and finished with a combination of high gloss amethyst and smoked black translucent varnish. Limited edition.
“Diamond Emerald.” This sideboard features three highly sculptured doors leading to a gold leaf interior with shelving, two drawers and a base made from mahogany lined with bronze mirror. Limited edition.
“Heritage” Cabinet is a tribute to the hand painted tiles of Portuguese history. A highly coveted ensemble of hand painted tiles like that of an expertly curate art collection, bring together master artisans and craftsmen for Boca do Lobo’s Heritage. In its interior, there is one door and four drawers, fully lined with golden leaf. It also contains two shelves made in bronze glass. The base is made from manually hammered brass. Limited edition.
“Mondrian Bar.” Composed by a collection of styles and typologies of drawers that consists of different finishes from glass to leather and lacquer encased in a smoked black glass box and supported by a high gloss lacquer solid wood base. Many of the drawers are accented with fabric-lined bottoms, and handcrafted brass pulls in a natural finish and/or coated in chrome. Limited edition.
The “Newton” Console is made from aluminum and lacquered in black, with a high gloss varnish. The spheres and semi spheres that complete this futuristic console are gold plated. Limited edition.
”Pixel” is an effort to honor the union between design and craftsmanship. The 1088 triangles that complete this piece, with a diversity of finishes never before seen combined – silver leaf, gold leaf, lacquering, and 10 different types of wood leaf – carry the dedication and art of those who built it.
Queens is made in wood and a glass tempered box. Composed by a set of drawers with finishing through traditional marquetry.
“Guggenheim Patch.” The internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century, the GuggenheimMuseum has inspired the concept of this cabinet. The Guggenheim cabinet is available in two finishes (rosewood or palisander), with black lacquered wood top and legs. Boca do Lobo’s Guggenheim is handcrafted in Portugal.
