Styled Shoot | Gorgeous Layers of Spring

We almost made it to spring without any snow. As a photographer I was dying for just one good snow so that I could photograph a sweet couple in it. Well, we were slammed with 8inches of snow… and a week later mother nature decided to give us another 2-4inches. By this time I was able to capture two engagement sessions and two styled shoots. With March approaching I was over the snow and ready for spring. With my wedding season starting on March 7th I wanted to shoot before my first real wedding of 2015. The Green Hill House asked for me to have one of my styled shoots at their fairly new venue location in Salem, VA. With a foot of snow outside we needed to transform the space into spring. The venue has a beautiful ivy wall and if you know me, you know I love ivy. The ivy was starting to get a little brown around the edges so we added a mixture of bright spring flowers to hide that factor. Vintage Vibe Rentals table and chairs was the inspiration for our colors. She had a white table that was paired with floral pattern chairs. The funny thing was this was her everyday dinning room furniture. It was meant to be as she had baby blue dishes that matched the blue in the chairs exactly. I just recently purchased some vintage chairs which matched the gold so we used those as the “Bride & Groom” chairs. She also had an old radio that was painted blue that we decided to use for the cake table. I wanted this to scream spring so I paired the dress from The Newfangled Bride with a yellow sweater and the groom matched with his own sweater and colorful bow tie. I adore flower crowns, they always photograph beautifully, but I wanted to do something different. So Gloriosa designed me a flower headpiece. The couple had a vintage bicycle with a basket filled with flowers. We also had a dessert table and a cake provided by For the Love of Sweets . Don’t let this bright shoot fool you it was 28 degrees outside! I also have to give a big shout out to my husband who spent 4 hours shoveling, beating ice with a hammer and pouring boiling water on the ice just so we could use the ivy wall. That’s the beauty of talented vendors and hard work, you’d never know! – Nicole Colwell Photography
