Jessica and Erek were inspired by their stunning historic venue, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens , to plan a tropical, romantic garden glamour wedding with a bit of the Art Deco feel they love about Miami. While every bit of their gorgeous soiree was stunning, it was the couple itself that really caught our attention - Darling Juliet really captured their beauty, joy and total adoration for each other. It's infectious!
Jessica and Erek met at Tufts University in Boston; she had just started dental school, and he, medical school. They crossed paths at the gym, then again at a party soon after, and have been together ever since. After four years of dating, Erek proposed in the Tufts Medical School lounge on Match Day, the day that 4th year medical students find out where they are being sent for their residencies. During the ceremony, each student is handed an envelope that has their match program in it; Erek handed his to Jessica under the pretense that he was too nervous to open it himself. When she ripped it open, it read: "Jessica, will you marry me?" And when she looked up, he was down on one knee. Says Jessica, "He wanted to make sure I would go with him no matter where he matched - of course I would have regardless!"
What makes us a great match is the way we compliment each other. His strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. I love the fact that he is pragmatic and can make decisions without emotion clouding important facts. He loves that I am empathetic and can see all sides if the situation. We are also both in health professions and love caring for and interacting with people.
Erek is in his residency to become a Physiatrist (the type of physician that specializes in traumatic brain/spinal cord injury) which is what brought us out to Seattle. Erek loves sports and his passion is in Sports Medicine. I am a Dentist and my passion is in rehabilitating smiles (a smile is such an important tool in spreading joy!).
“My favorite memory was the first look. I was shaking as I walked up behind Erek and touched his back. The look on his face when he turned around just made me cry! I was so happy that our day was finally here.”
The two wanted both a destination wedding that wasn't to hard to get to and an unconventional venue, and Jessica's parents own a property in Sunny Isles Beach that gave them a home base in South Florida for research and planning trips. They found Vizcaya and were blown away: "It transports you to another place and time. Miami itself has that great art deco vibe going and that made us imagine a Great Gatsby garden soiree. We also loved the idea of the water right at the estate. It added to the tropical feeling of the night. We took inspiration from weddings that have Art Deco glamour with romantic touches."
Erek's favorite memory was the last dance, as he told Jessica: "... because I finally got you alone and nothing was happening except me and you. And we were married."
