“Being a photographer is one of the best jobs you can have, you get to meet so many great people and reconnect with old friends. Joe and I met at Western and I hadn’t seen him in years. I was so excited when he reached out to me about possibly shooting him and Alyssa’s wedding. I knew Alyssa’s brother was also a photographer, so meeting her was a little intimidating, plus she is gorgeous! When we met, she was telling me about her vision and we instantly clicked. Photography is such a huge part of my life, I want my clients to have a great experience, and I want their photos to be the best they can be. When we started talking about engagement photos, I always try to do something unique and fun. We both talked about wanting soft light and neutral colors, I thought a canoe would be a perfect touch. It was a beautiful day – the light and setting was magical. I am so happy these two chose me as their photographer, they are such a great couple who love photos as much as I do. I can’t wait for their wedding at the Blue Dress Barn this July, and to see all the fun details they bring to it!” – Kathy Davies Photography
How did you find your photographer?
“Joe and Kathy ( Kathy Davies Photography ) were neighbors at Western Michigan University and met in 2003; later becoming co-workers in 2005. After our engagement in April of 2013 photography was our first priority! We actually booked Kathy before the venue! Joe suggested we reach out to Kathy, as he knew she was studying photography at WMU, and later started Kathy Davies Photography. I am a tough critic when it comes to capturing pictures, as a result of my brother being a photographer. On our wedding day it is most important to me that he be a part of the celebration and filling his shoes was a tall task! Joe set up for a time to meet with Kathy and review her work, as well as our photo needs…. let me tell you – I fell in love with her in minutes! Kathy is a sweet, wonderful and crazy talented woman! The special moments and raw feelings that I need captured on our wedding day will be in her very capable hands!
What are you DIY-ing for your wedding?
..Oh YES.. the DIY!!! The best part of the Blue Dress Barn is that your really getting just that! The natural landscape surrounding this beautiful structure is breathtaking! As a bride you coordinate and contract for everything that comes in on your big day! One may think that our wedding would be rustic given the venue, but honestly the the only rustic piece is the gorgeous barn! I have just completed all our glass for the table arrangements, DIY mercury glass that will catch the reflection of our candle light throughout the evening. I have also stained custom wooden letters for table assignments. Next project will be a seating chart made from window panes collected throughout the state of Michigan…
What are you looking forward to the most?
..Seeing Joe’s face when my mother and I come around the corner and begin our walk down the aisle! If I could have two answers to this question I would say watching our families come together and celebrate our love! They have been incredibly supportive of us individually our entire lives. Experiencing their joy that we have found in each other is overwhelming and we are so grateful to have them surround us on this amazing journey!” – Alyssa, the bride-to-be
