DIY Wedding | Jed + Cassandra

“This Downton-Abbey-esque wedding venue was the dream location for our DIY bride Cassandra. Nestled in the hills of Tacoma, it’s English brick complimented the marsala and rich jewel tones carried throughout the wedding. From the two hand-made couture gowns and veil, to the floral centerpieces and bouquets, her personal touch was evident throughout the event. If that’s not enough creativity, while the bride was busy designing her own gowns, the groom was designing their rings! One of our favorite DIY details was the mini bags of fresh cherries as edible take home favors. Surrounded by family and friends the couple set up the event the day prior and added the finishing touches before they were whisked away to the ceremony.” – Christa Taylor Photography

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

There were so many magical moments, I kept pinching myself seeing all the details I had been obsessing over for months come together so beautifully! But I would have to say my favorite memory was our getaway – running down the gauntlet of sparklers and smiling faces, jumping into his BMW convertible and jetting off into the night.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

I’m a classically trained couturier, so I made my wedding dress, reception dress, MOH’s dress, my flower girl’s dress and my veil. My sister and I baked the cake, made the fruit syrups for the Italian soda bar (my brother and I built the bar itself) and I arranged some of the bouquets as well.

My husband was a jeweler, so he made my ring!

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

My something old and borrowed was my grandmother’s garter, my aunt bought me blue ribbon from Paris that I sewed to it. My earrings, dress and shoes were all new.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Make time for family, heed advise (mom does know a thing or two!) And live in the moment! – Cassandra, the bride
