The real estate prices in business districts of big cities just seem to keep on rising and it becomes more and more difficult to find a comfortable but affordable dwelling. One solution is smaller and cheaper apartments, so that was what Ukrainian architect Denis Svirid chose to create on top of an old building. He cut off an approximately 20 m2 (215 ft2) big chunk of an existing 65 m2 (700 ft2) house and added a mansard floor. The decision to build a mansard floor instead of full second floor was made, because it made it easier and cheaper to get a building permit.
Kitchen, dining zone, drawing-room and office space is combined in a 11 m2 (118 ft2) room on the first floor, the work station is placed under the staircase.
A sliding mirror door hides the office when it isn’t used.
Behind the wooden sliding doors in the kitchen is hidden a bathroom. There is also a bathroom on the second floor, not too shabby for an 35m2 (377 ft2) apartment
