Two urban cycling specialists, Tern and Xtracycle, have come together to collaborate on the world's first folding cargo bike. The Cargo Joe C21 brings together the best of both companies to create the ultimate in two-wheeled urban transport, enabling you to leave your car at home.
The Cargo Joe C21 incorporates the Tern Joe folding bike platform with Xtracycle's FreeRadical Classic longtail kit. The Joe C21 is a full-size 26" wheel bike with 21 speeds to get you up and over any terrain. The Joe C21 takes only 10 seconds to fold or unfold, so won't make you late for that school or grocery run.
Xtracycle pioneered the longtail cargo bike over 15 years ago. Longtails ride like a normal bike even when loaded, and can carry cargo of up to 400 lbs. The Xtracycle FreeRadical equips you to carry groceries, cargo of all shapes and sizes, lite loads or heavy ones, and even passengers. The LongLoader accessory aligns extra-long items to keep the pedals clear, while the WideLoaders give you a platform to pile on the cargo.
Folded up, the Cargo Joe is short enough (55") to fit on the front rack of a city bus or, when necessary, squeeze into the back seat of a car. Mostly, the folding action just makes it easier to store the cargo bike in your garage. Unfolded, the Cargo Joe is a full longtail at 85".
The Cargo Joe comes in two sizing options: Medium with an 18" seat tube and Large with a 20" seat tube. The FreeRadical rack kit comes in three varieties X0-X2, depending on the amount of desired accessories. The Cargo Joe retails for $999, including 2 waterproof bags, and is available from your local Tern and Xtracycle retailers.
