Barely Alive “Dead Link VIP”

Barely Alive dropped jaws and stole center stage with this epic re-lick—taken from the Disciple 02: The Second Coming LP last year—of their already hard and heavy “Dead Link” floor-killer. Taking their time to build up the tension and stretch out the inevitable release, the duo drops it hard as the tune unfolds properly. There’s no turning back once the hook takes hold and twists that dome.

Virtual Riot & Funtcase “Borg”

Virtual Riot and Funtcase lock horns on this anthem, which has been making the rounds all summer long—with good reason. The deceptively smooth intro gives way to the darkness at the heart of it all, as a deep voice announces that life as you know it is over. As the track winds up proper, expect synapse-overload when the alarm hits, as the atmosphere comes alive with raucous stabs, including an epic dolphin-squawk—yes, you heard that right. Make sure and hold tight all the way to the second drop as the duo amps it up and leaves you gasping for more.

Dodge & Fuski vs. 12th Planet “Big Riddim Monsta”

With the big dog 12th Planet in the mix, this classic cut still shreds when it drops. It’s a full-on nightmarish killer that pulls up for a quick, cheeky in-studio chat before the crew dumps the bass and smashes all who step in its path. This monstrous collab between Dodge & Fuski and 12th Planet will be a staple for years to come and is already an epic cut that has been rinsed and remixed over and over again. Still, none seem to stand up to the electrifying power of the original.

Dubloadz ft. Crichy Crich “Lost in the Sauce”

Known for continually pushing genre boundaries and coming with a sound all his own, Dubloadz has been crushing it nonstop this past year. While his most recently released Cuck Life EP continues to run it red worldwide, we thought we’d take a dip back to this fresh cut from last year. This gangsta-tinged cut still reigns supreme as a prime example of the Dubloadz flex.

BadKlaat “Fright Night”

Taken from the third volume in the Reinforcements series, this lurching dark-side thriller comes on like some gruesome beast untethered from his chains. Building horrifying atmospheres and creating a face-melting hook, BadKlaat brings on the goosebumps and dancefloor chills like no other on one of our favorite cuts from earlier this year.

Barely Alive “Poison Dart” (BUSTED By Herobust)

Barely Alive gets the remix treatment on this killer cut, as none other than Herobust steps in and rinses it the fuck out. This rework is centered around a spiraling crescendo that brings on the pain, and when this one hits, prepare for a gnarly stepper that sticks and moves in an addictive, trap-laced groove. Busting with wave after wave of pulsating energy, this remix stands out as one of our all-time favorite poison-tipped killers.

Dodge & Fuski x Nick Thayer “Playboy” (Barely Alive Remix)

Back in 2014, trap was taking over, and this little remix from Barely Alive was completely running things. Taking it from the streets to the club and back, this rework was part of a wave of releases that helped transform Barely Alive from an up-and-coming duo to full-fledged heavy hitters with their eyes set on world domination.

Dubloadz ft. Barely Alive “Calamari”

When word got out that these label stalwarts were linking up in the studio, we knew it was going to be epic, but we had no idea it would turn out like this. With straight neck-snapping vibes from the get-go, this peak-time thriller is still blowing doors and minds every time it hits. When the vocal calls out to “fuck the beat up,” you’d best prep for the full-on pressure of a beat assault and street-level pummeling that twists and turns with inimitable style from Disciple’s very best.

Virtual Riot & Autodrive ft. Splitbreed “Nightmare”

We love it when Virtual Riot dips into the dark side. This cut still holds up as a certified floor-thriller over a year later. Teaming up with Autodrive and Splitbreed for a no-holds-barred journey into the grimy bass underworld, Virtual Riot unleashes the razor-tipped “Nightmare,” which is still the go-to cut for selectors looking to smash heads and make the crowds crush it on the rails.

Diamond Eyes & Christina Grimmie “Stay With Me”

Released in April 2015, this melancholy, vocal-driven heartbreaker features none other than Christina Grimmie, then a promising YouTube pop star and The Voice finalist. Marking her first foray into bass music, this grimy, melodic dubstep track took on even more meaning after she was gunned down by an obsessed fan earlier this year. It’s a haunting ode to her talent, but also a prime example of the way a gifted vocalist can bring the feels by riding effortlessly atop growling bass vibes.
