U.S. Senate Candidate Joni Ernst References True Meaning of Second Amendment

Iowa – Although the quote is two years old, Republican Joni Ernst’s reference to the true meaning of the second amendment has recently made news , probably because of a tight senate race this year. Apparently, Ernst’s handlers are reaching out to freedom lovers by publicizing her statement.

Her strongest opponent is Bruce Braley, an anti-gun Democrat.

She doesn’t shy away from guns, and in fact aired a TV ad in which she fires a pistol past the camera. The narrater claims that, “Once she sets her sights on Obamacare, Joni’s gonna unload.” Ernst then asks viewers, “Give me a shot.”

At an Iowa pro-gun event in 2012, Ernst said, “I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family, whether it’s from an intruder or from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important.”

This is a popular and accurate translation of the Second Amendment’s intended purpose: to allow Americans to protect themselves against ALL comers–foreign and domestic, citizen or government.

I would imagine this can only help Ernst’s chances.
