As the most rural state in the United States, Vermont is dotted with the most picturesque towns and villages, covered with rolling farmlands , bisected by undulating hills, and home to more than a hundred covered bridges and even more maple syrup “sugarhouses”.
It’s an incredibly beautiful and peaceful state and a great place to visit in summer and especially in fall. It makes for a magnificent weekend trip, which has to include a scenic drive and a stay in a colonial house in a gorgeous rural town. Vermont is easy to reach by car hire or motorhome rental from Boston USA or Montreal, Canada
I’ve been on dozens of drives across the state, in an attempt to photograph every covered bridge in Vermont , drives that have taken me to the most hidden corners of the state. If I hadn’t been looking for certain covered bridges, I most likely wouldn’t have stumbled upon some of the most gorgeous villages that I’ve ever seen.
There’s really nothing like a town in Vermont with its historic wooden houses, the old and authentic general store, an antique shop, a weekly flea market, the typical white church and a “green” with gazebo.
In addition to the covered bridges, natural scenery and fall foliage, the picturesque towns attract their share of visitors to Vermont as well. And rightly so, because that’s where you will want to stay when visiting the state.
