Wearable Tech Gets Skin Deep With New DuoSkin Interfaces

Wearable technology seems right on the cusp of breaking through to mass consumer popularity. While the infamous Google Glass might have flopped (earning a terrible reputation and even garnering the term “glasshole” ), recent innovations like the watch-size subwoofer , the “hearable” wireless listening system , and bone-conducting eyewear speakers show there’s plenty of other awesome applications. DuoSkin is one that gets even closer to the skin.

DuoSkin is a thin, customizable on-skin interface that looks a lot like a temporary tattoo and is similarly applied, using water to transfer onto the skin. However, this discreet device actually allows its wearer to control their smartphone, store data, and display information.

Three variations are currently planned, including “input,” “output” and “communication.” The designers claim the intention is to shift wearable technology toward the point where the outside world doesn’t even know you’re using (or wearing) it.

“We believe that in the future, on-skin electronics will no longer be black-boxed and mystified; instead, they will converge towards the user friendliness, extensibility, and aesthetics of body decorations, forming a DuoSkin integrated to the extent that it has seemingly disappeared.”

While there’s no news yet of when we’ll get the chance to slap a DuoSkin on our arms, you can watch a video below of the technology in action.
