Now that we are a bit older and have a child, we tend to look for other accommodation options than just hostels. We love hostels and will always want to stay in them for the social aspect, but we like to keep our options open for other budget accommodation.
Apartments and holiday houses are a great way to find cheap Gold Coast accommodation.
Pacific Place Apartments
On our recent trip to the Bluesfest and Gold Coast we stayed at the Pacific Place Apartments on Bilinga Beach. It was perfectly suited to what we needed and were looking for.
Location
Pacific Place was only a short stroll to the wide open Bilinga Beach – a 20 meter stroll that is. Can’t beat that.

Not only that but a boardwalk ran along the beach taking you through the surfing town of Kirra and around the Headland to our favourite, Coolangatta .
This was only about a 40 minute walk which my Dad loved doing early every morning. You could tell he was missing it when we returned home. Even dads can get the post holiday blues .
It was also located only a 5 minute walk from the international Gold Coast airport.
Quiet and small
Bilinga is a small beach town with only a few streets and barely any shops around. Despite being situated opposite the airport, it was really very quiet. There were no rowdy, drunken youths wadnering around late at night as you might be expected to find in Surfers Paradise .

The apartment was a really decent size. My parents were with us for the week, so we really wanted to be sure we weren’t sitting on top of one another. The living room was really quite large, as was the kitchen and separate dining room.

We also had a balcony to sit on if we needed escaping.

The apartment was clean and comfortable to stay in. You really don’t need much more than this. We were far too busy to spend much time in the apartment anyway.
Affordable
One of the most important decisions for any traveller is to find decent accommodation at an affordable price. Pacific Place apartments provide value for money especially if there is a few of you planning on staying together.
Instead of all grabbing a hostel bed in the same dorm, you might as well go for your own room, comfy lounge area, and your own kitchen for cooking meals.
For cheap Gold Coast accommodation a 3 bedroom apartment at Pacific Place, sleeping 6 people can cost around $900 for a week outside of peak seasonal holiday periods.
