Go Freek Goes Off the Rails With “Call Out” for Insomniac Records

We’ve got the next Go Freek tune coming in hot. “Call Out” is a real belter of a tune that shows the Aussie duo going right off the rails with their trademark gutter tech sound. While this likely wouldn’t be the first time you have heard it—seeing as Pasquale made damn sure to work the premiere into his clutch Night Owl Radio programming—but today is the day it officially drops on Insomniac Records . It’s been getting mad love across the board, and we don’t blame the lengthy list of supporters rinsing this chunky piece of goodness out. It goes hard af, but you can judge for yourself IRL tonight when the gents swing into Exchange in Los Angeles for the single’s official release party. Come through to celebrate with the Insomniac Recs squad, and hear how the bit hits on a proper sound system.

Before you start getting all fancy for the affair, we figured it would be a smart idea to let Go Freek give us all the dirt on their new joint. Smash the play button on “Call Out” after the jump, while you get the whole story directly from two gents who have been smashing it all day and all night.

You’re about to wrap up a five-week North American run of dates for your new single on Insomniac Records. What does the highlight reel for the tour look like right now?
The tour as a whole has been one big highlight reel, haha; every show has been incredible. But EDC Vegas definitely takes the cake. It was wild—like nothing we have ever experienced. Second to that, probably horse-riding in Whistler through the mountains with good mates.

Are there any must-see spots you always try to make room for in your schedule when you’re in our neck of the woods?
We always try and make it down to Venice; we love the atmosphere there. Also, Roscoe’s for chicken and waffles—we don’t get that in Australia.

As for the tune itself, “Call Out,” care to give us some context? How did the track come together, what was going on around you when the inspiration hit, and all that jazz?
The track came together pretty organically for us. It started as a crazy idea; then we sort of tamed it to become more accessible and club-friendly. Then we found an amazing vocalist who smashed out the topline, and the rest is history.

What has been your favorite moment playing this one out so far?
Everytime we play it, we get a great reaction from the crowd, so it’s hard to pinpoint an exact moment. But if we had to choose, playing it on the cosmicMEADOW stage at EDC and hearing it through that massive sound system was pretty special.

Do you have any remixers in mind yet?
We do! We actually have all the remixes getting mastered right now. It’s such an amazing package, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. More details coming soon!

The official release party is going down at Exchange this Friday. Do you have any words of encouragement for those hanging on the fence about going?
It’s gonna be a lot of fun! And we are digging deep for it—can guarantee nothing but our best music and good vibes!

In a previous interview, you mentioned a preference for working individually on projects, because too many distractions come up when you attempt to work side-by-side. How does the process get broken up between the two of you?
We constantly send projects back and forth via Dropbox, so there still definitely is an element of teamwork. But the usual process is me (Russ) sending Caleb a crazy drop idea with some unique sound design, and he tames it a bit and builds a whole track around it; we usually put the finishing touches on together.

Who gets distracted more easily and by what?
I think it might probably be even; we are no strangers to distraction.

Lastly, how do you like to get your Freek on?
Vodka/soda/lime.

“Call Out” is available now .
