The City of Vancouver’s downtown core streets will come alive as VIVA Vancouver returns this weekend. The summer program will transform streets into public spaces until Labour Day, by bringing the community together to sit and relax, meet new people and talk with neighbours.

Now in its fourth year, VIVA kicks off this weekend with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and, starting this Saturday, the 800-block of Robson Street between the Provincial Law Courts and the Vancouver Art Gallery will be closed to road traffic to become a pedestrian plaza until Labour Day.

Granville Street, between Smithe and Hastings Streets, will be closed on weekends from June 29 through to September 3 and transformed into VIVA Granville, a pedestrian public space with events and attractions.

VIVA Vancouver and its partners, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and TransLink, are working with several other local community and business organizations to deliver a creative, entertaining program. Bus routes along Granville and Robson streets will be rerouted to nearby streets for the duration of both closures.

VIVA Vancouver capitalizes on the City’s stunning landscape by promoting a culture of walking and spending time outside in vibrant urban settings across Vancouver. The free program provides people of all ages with opportunities to enjoy themselves all summer long through new pop-up plazas, pop-up decks, and pedestrian streets featuring local arts and culture.
