A group of former Nokia engineers, all into some form of outdoor sport, decided to redirect their mobile phone experience and live their dream of a creating a GPS training watch that every athlete would love to use. The result is Leikr , the first GPS watch with extra large color screen to simultaneously display all your workout information.
The first thing you notice about Leikr is the large 2" full color display with 11% reflectivity index, all proteced under a durable gorilla glass layer. Leikr builds in the maps from OpenStreetMap, which are customizable and support zoom, stored in 8GB of memory. You can track your route on the map in order to see where you are, where you have been, and where you still need to go.
As the display is so big, you can simultaneously view all of your workout stats while you are training, including pace, speed, heart rate, distance, elapsed time, and calories. You don't have to flip through screens, instead you can see everything with just one glance down at the six different boxes.
Workouts and programs are downloaded to your GPS watch from the Leikr portal. All you have to do is fill in your fitness level and goals and then the Leikr coaches will recommend appropriate workouts for you. Leikr has also teamed up with Endomondo for analyzing your training, choosing routes, and sharing accomplishments with your friends.
Once you have finished your workout, you can sync the data wherever you are. Complete wireless connectivity gets rid of the need for cables, dongles, or special software. The Leikr device transfers and receives data seamlessly both from Endomondo and the Leikr portal.
Leikr claims to have developed custom software to boost the performance of the GPS technology to improve accuracy and give you a faster satellite signal. The lithium polymer battery will last for up to 6 hrs of active time and 24 hours on standby before the need to charge.
For $299 in the current Leikr Kickstarter campaign, you can be one of the first to get your hands on the new GPS watch.
