It was just a few short weeks ago that dance music’s forefathers were finally given their dues. During Detroit Techno Week, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan presented the Spirit of Detroit award to the ”Belleville Three,” the pioneering collective comprising Kevin Saunderson , Juan Atkins and Derrick May . Now, a full-blown reunion is on the table.
“What I can say for the future is that we’re working on a tour now, for all three of us as the Belleville Three,” Saunderson said in an interview with We Got This Covered. “We’re gonna try to kick it off next year, and it’s gonna start out with DJing and evolve into a much bigger thing, too.”
The three DJ/producers attended Belleville High School together and are considered the founding fathers of the techno genre, which is now more popular than ever . The last time they performed together was back in 2010 at Amsterdam’s Awakenings Festival .
