Last week, Swedish superstar Avicii confirmed his shows in Belfast and Ibiza over the weekend would be his last . Earlier this year, he announced he’d be retiring from the EDM life after completing a final run of shows where he’d fulfil his Ushuaïa Ibiza residency, plus a few select festival dates like EDC UK (though not his final Las Vegas shows , as it turns out).
Sunday night might have been the end of an era for one of the biggest stars EDM culture has ever seen, but he’s emerged since to clarify that while he is indeed retiring from touring, this doesn’t mean that he’ll be giving up on being part of music overall.
“This Sunday was my last show. But far from my last days in the world of music,” Avicii said in an Instagram post yesterday.
“Creating music is what makes me happy, and I have gotten to know so many great people in my days of touring, seen so many amazing places and created endless good memories.”
Avicii went on to clarify his reasons for quitting as a touring artist, riffing on his statement that “the scene was not for me,” which he gave to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.
“The decision I made might seem odd to some, but everyone is different, and for me, this was the right one. Thank you to all my fans, my friends and family and everyone in the aviciicrew/family.”
