Florian Kruse and Hendrik Burkhard got more than they bargained for when the two spent a week in September doing a brain-dump in the studio. The consecutive sessions were so fertile that they amounted to a wealth of co-credited cuts, which were quickly claimed by illustrious labels from the likes of Noir Music, Poker Flat and Jeudi. Joris Voorn’s Green has called dibs on the last pair of productions Kruse and Burkhard have banked, with their The Ground two-tracker serving as the finale to a rather fruitful collaborative run.
Based on those moments when the rug gets pulled out right from under you, the titular cut is a masterstroke at matching motion with emotion. Hendrick waxes poetic with his heart-rupturing incantations. Kruse then reinforces his seen-better-days vocal delivery with delicate drum patterns that cradle sullen chord progressions with layers of hope and healing. Although this is the last confirmed sighting of their well-received project, we have a feeling this won’t be the last we see of Kruse and Hendrick.
