Hello friends! Are you planning your wedding and stressing about every single thing that could go wrong? Let me help you get ahead of some of those issues. I chatted with the fabulous Amber Harrison (style and trend expert for Wedding Paper Divas ) for a recent episode of Small talk. Big day to talk about some of the most common wedding planning mistakes I see couples make.

My first tip? Set your budget before committing to vendors! I’ve seen a lot of couples sign a contract with a hotel before even thinking about their budget. This is a big no-no! Most hotel packages will include food and beverage, which is great, but you need to have your budget set beforehand to determine how much you can swing. Otherwise before you know it, all your moolah has been blown on the hotel and there’s nothing left for fun details like flowers or that photo booth you’ve been dreaming of. Yikes!

Another mistake I see often is couples assuming a certain amount of guests won’t show up and planning seating, food, etc. accordingly. Stick to this rule: if they’ve RSVPed “yes” they’re going to come! While no-shows are common, the last thing you want is guests showing up with nowhere to sit or nothing to eat. Better to be safe than sorry (and embarrassed!).

This also applies to when you’re making your guest list; only invite the number of guests you can accommodate. Sure it’s more than possible that some will be unable to come, but in the off chance that everyone can attend you don’t want to over-invite and then run out of budget or –worse– capacity in the ballroom. That’s not a fun problem to solve!

At the end of the day, something is bound to go wrong during your planning process. Just stay calm and don’t fret! Remember that there’s always a solution and, most of the time, your guests won’t even notice those mess ups.
