I am thrilled to announce that my next adventure will take me to Sayulita, Mexico!

I have been invited by Nourish Retreats to join them for their Escape 2011 trip — a week of surfing, yoga, healthy meals, wellness, and living in an eco resort!

And here’s the best part — you can come with me!

Escape 2011 is a wellness retreat presented by Nourish Retreats, a Canada-based fitness company. Each day varies, but all of them include yoga, sometimes even yoga by candlelight!

There is a surfing lesson early in the trip, with plenty of time to surf in the days afterward, and other days include workouts — including beach workouts!  And there is lots of free time as well.

In between, there are optional excursions, like whale watching, and the restaurant serves healthy gourmet meals (primarily vegetarian, with some local fish).

Sayulita is a 40-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific coast.  It’s a fun and funky surfer town.

The founders of Nourish Retreats, Canadians Terri and Kim, are passionate about health, fitness and travel. Before starting Nourish Retreats, they started their own fitness and yoga businesses.  I love meeting women entrepreneurs who have turned their passions into careers, as I am attempting to do myself!

Haramara Retreat , the resort at which the retreat takes place, was featured in Yoga Journal as a luxury fitness destination worth the splurge.

The open-air palapa cabanas are electricity-free, lit by oil lamps, and are surrounded by lush vegetation. The resort is designed to have as little impact on the environment as possible — and after my stay at the Alam Sari in Bali , I’ve become a big fan of sustainable resorts!

The resort has its own private beach and several acres of rainforest — not to mention 360-degree views.  And the restaurant serves gourmet meals that are reportedly fantastic.

Here are a few reasons why I am looking forward to this retreat:

To finally wake up early for yoga.

I’ve always wished I were the kind of person who could wake up early for yoga, but for me, it just won’t happen.  I’m a night owl, not an early bird.

BUT — with yoga scheduled most mornings, I know that will finally get me to go!  And if I like it, maybe I can make it a habit.

To give my body some TLC.

Drinking all those buckets, lugging that heavy backpack everywhere, getting covered in mosquito bites, overtanning, drinking snake blood — I put my body through a LOT on the Asia Jaunt.  I need to take care of myself, and this is just the place to do it.

To get photos of me actually looking feminine while surfing.

I LOVED surfing in Bali , but in all my pictures, I look like a dude.

I need to surf in a bikini.  Wedgies be damned.

To see if I can live without electricity.

The open-air cabanas are without electricity — they are lit by oil lamps and candlelight.  At first, this freaked me out — but then I learned that there is electricity in the communal areas and there is WiFi just down the street in town.  Perfect.

But it will be interesting to see what it’s like to be electricity-free!

To participate in a retreat, but to have time to do my own thing.

I’m wary of organized trips jam-packed with activity after activity, but Escape 2011 has several hours of free time each day.  For me, that’s fantastic — as an introvert, I go crazy if I don’t have alone time each day.

I will use that free time lying on the beach, reading, practicing my surfing — and, of course, blogging and getting my online work done!

To eat LOTS of guacamole.

During my three weeks in England, I made up for the past six months in cheese consumption alone.  I plan to do the same with guacamole in Mexico!

To travel with some of my readers.

That’s IF you sign up, which I hope you do! Have you checked out the site yet?

This trip is going to be fantastic.

Surfing, yoga, beach, healthy food, Mexican heat and sunshine…what more could you want?!

I really hope you can join me. Maybe we’ll even end up as roomies!

I will be joining Escape 2011 as a guest of Nourish Retreats .  All opinions, as always, are my own.
