British illustrator Andy Scullion has a goal to print this comprehensive guide to the bicycle, which outlines the family tree of dozens of popular models.
To do it he’s enlisted the crowd-funding capabilities of Kickstarter , where you can buy a copy for about $42.
According to Scullion, each contemporary bike can trace its origin back to a mutual lineage. His illustration “tells the story of this beloved machine, from its humble penny farthing beginnings, to the Tour De France racing bikes, and custom fixies we see today.”
The project begins with a “walking machine” first invented in 1817 and traces the development of bikes until today’s high-tech racing and mountain bikes.
